The Division II Athletics Directors Association selected Cal State Bakersfield Athletics Director  Rudy Carvajal and former Rollins AD Phil Roach as recipients of the organization’s inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award given to athletics directors who have exemplified superior achievement during their career at the Division II level.

The two will be honored at the NACDA convention in June.

Carvajal, who has been the AD at Cal State Bakersfield since 1972, has led a program that has won 30 national championships in five sports. The Roadrunners are also the first and only member of the California State University system to capture the Directors’ Cup.

Roach, who served as AD at Rollins for 13 years, was instrumental with the inception of the Division II Athletics Directors Association in 1997-98. He served as the association’s president in 1998-99 and was a member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics executive committee from 1994-99.

In May 2004 behind Roach’s leadership, Rollins helped support the inaugural NCAA Division II National Championships Festival, which grouped six spring championships at a common location over five days.

Nominees for the Lifetime Achievement Award must be at least 60 years old or have spent at least 25 years in collegiate athletics, with most of those years as an AD. The nominee may be currently in the profession or retired.
