Fans have an opportunity to vote for the greatest female athlete in West Coast Conference history through an online poll open through December 20. The winner will join 24 other former student-athletes on the conference’s 25th anniversary of women’s athletics.

The first 24 members of the team will be decided by a panel of the senior woman administrators from each campus, conference staff and selected media. The fan poll will determine the final member among the remaining candidates for the team: Kelley Cunningham, Gonzaga volleyball player; Valerie Gillon, San Francisco basketball player; Lindsey Huie, Portland soccer player; Melissa King Fisher, Santa Clara basketball player; Angela Lawrence, Pepperdine tennis player; and Carolina Llano, Pepperdine golfer.

The West Coast Conference began sponsoring women’s athletics in 1985 with volleyball, cross country, basketball and tennis. Women’s soccer, rowing and golf were added in the 1990s.

“The foundation of our rich tradition of success in women’s athletics was built upon the efforts of the outstanding women who, as West Coast Conference student-athletes, have competed at the highest level of collegiate athletics for over a quarter century,” said Commissioner Jamie Zaninovich. “This campaign allows us to reflect upon the profound impact these women have made on our campuses, and in their chosen sports postgraduation, to help establish the conference as a nationally recognized conference for women’s athletics.”
