Navy women’s lacrosse coach Cindy Timchal took possession of the all-time lacrosse coaching wins record when the Midshipmen beat Lafayette, 19-4, last week.

The victory gave Timchal 352 wins, one more than William Smith’s Pat  Genovese, whose Herons open the season March 17. The closest men’s coach is Salisbury’s Jim Berkman with 330 wins in 21 seasons with the Sea Gulls.

Timchal is in her 27th season as a head coach, with stints at Northwestern and Maryland. She won eight national championships at Maryland, including seven consecutive titles from 1995 to 2001. She has coached greats in the sport like Kelly Amonte-Hiller (now Northwestern’s head coach), Jen Adams (Loyola head coach), Kerstin Kimel (Duke head coach) and Cathy Reese (Maryland head coach).
