The Southland Conference will induct former McNeese State basketball student-athlete Joe Dumars and former Stephen F.  Austin women’s basketball coach Gary Blair into the conference’s Hall of Honor. The two will be recognized during the conference’s annual honors ceremony on May 28.

Dumars held conference scoring titles and was named Southland Freshman of the Year in 1982. He is the only men’s basketball player in league history to earn four first-team all-conference honors and four all-tournament awards. He was drafted in 1985 by the Detroit Pistons and retired from the team in 1999 with two NBA titles. He now works in the Pistons front office.

Blair coached at Stephen F. Austin from 1985-93, earning an overall record of 210-43. He was a five-time league coach of the year and led the Ladyjacks to six consecutive NCAA tournament appearances. Since leaving Stephen F. Austin, he has coached at Arkansas and Texas A&M and led the U.S. Women’s National Team. He earned his 500th career victory on February 20, 2008, at Texas A&M.
