Quinnipiac will eliminate men’s indoor track and reinstate its women’s volleyball program in response to a recent court ruling that found the school out of compliance with gender equity laws.

The school previously announced the elimination of men’s golf and men’s outdoor track.

Quinnipiac Vice President for Public Affairs Lynn Bushnell said in a prepared statement that the school would undertake a comprehensive review of the athletics department and make appropriate changes to ensure Title IX policies are followed. During the court case, brought by the Connecticut American Civil Liberties Union on behalf of the volleyball team, the athletics department revealed that some coaches of men’s teams provided inaccurate participant figures to help the school gain Title IX compliance.

Bushnell said the university will also use the 2009-10 year to determine actual participation numbers for the newly added sport of women’s competitive cheer.
