Pacific-10 Conference schools have educated dozens of successful and well-known athletes and coaches, and the conference will use that “star power” to promote itself to prospective student-athletes and the public in a new marketing campaign.Commissioner Larry Scott announced that some of the greatest legends of the league will participate in a series of television promotions.“Pac-10 student-athletes have made a major impact both on and off the field,” he said. “We have Olympians, hall of famers, Cy Young Award winners and others who appreciate the impact their schools and the Pac-10 had on their lives.”

Among the participating former student-athletes are Annika Sorenstam (golf, Arizona); Andre Ethier (baseball, Arizona State); Aaron Rodgers (football, California); Kerri Walsh (volleyball, Stanford); Joey Harrington (football, Oregon); Jacoby Ellsbury (baseball, Oregon State); Jackie Joyner-Kersee (track and field, UCLA); Lisa Leslie (basketball, Southern California); Hope Solo (soccer, Washington) and Ron Cey (baseball, Washington State).

The campaign consists of six spots and various print ads featuring alumni from each of the conference’s 10 member institutions as well as accomplished coaches in the Pac-10. The campaign focuses on the six defining characteristics of the conference and its athletes: “champion,” dominance,” “hero,” “legend,” “West Coast appeal,” and “passion.”

Television commercials began airing November 28 and will air again tonight (December 3) during the Oregon State-Oregon football game. A spot will also air during the Rose Bowl on January 1.
