Michigan’s Board of Regents has approved the construction of a $23.2 million Basketball Player Development Center that is intended to serve the Wolverines’ men’s and women’s teams. The 57,000-square-foot facility will be built next to Crisler Arena.

The building will house two basketball practice courts, team locker rooms for players and coaches, and areas for sports medicine and hydrotherapy. Coaching staff and administrative support offices will fill the second floor, along with film viewing rooms and strength and conditioning space.

The project will also create a new entrance for Crisler Arena for players and coaches at the playing floor level and a new Hall of Fame area in the lobby. Construction will be phased-in, with completion expected in fall 2011.

Women’s team head coach Kevin Borseth said the new facility will help the program develop student-athletes on and off the court.

“Everything surrounding our basketball program, including scheduling, player/coach working relationships, player development and recruitment, will benefit from this addition,” Borseth said.
