Pepperdine women’s volleyball coach Nina Matthies earned her 500th victory September 11 when the Waves defeated Seattle, 3-0.

“I don’t really pay attention to these kinds of things,” said Matthies, who is in her 27th season as head coach. “I think it means that we’ve had a very strong program over the years. We’ve had a lot of really good talent, and I’ve had the help of a lot of good coaches.”

The Waves have qualified for 18 NCAA tournaments under Matthies’ direction. She won or shared the West Coast Conference Coach of the Year title nine times and is the conference’s all-time winningest coach with a career mark of 494-294.

The 2009 Waves currently are ranked 25th in the coaches poll.
