Lamar baseball coach Jim Gilligan recorded his 1,100th win with the school Wednesday when the Cardinals beat Siena, 6-1. He is in his 33rd year as head coach.

The team is now 6-0 for the season.

Gilligan pitched for Lamar as a student-athlete, leading the 1967 squad in victories, earned-run average and strikeouts. After graduation, he pitched professionally for the Tigers organization, and held coaching jobs at Western New Mexico and with the Salt Lake Trappers, the Miami Miracles and the Taiwan national team.

Gilligan was inducted into the Texas Baseball Hall of Fame in 2004, and in 2007 Lamar honored him by created the Jim Gilligan Scholarship in Baseball.
