Following is a summary of Division I news from the week of August 24-28.

  • A recent study showed college athletics departments are not as environmentally conscious as their peers in the rest of the university or the professional leagues. But several schools have demonstrated that they can make a lasting commitment to sustainability without hurting their bottom line.
  • The Mountain West Conference has proposed eliminating the one-time transfer exception for women’s volleyball players. It is one of several eligibility proposals the Division I Legislative Council will consider this cycle.
  • Beth DeBauche, director of Division I, will become commissioner of the Ohio Valley Conference on September 21. She talked with The NCAA News about her new job.
  • The Sun Belt Conference created a theme to help market itself to fans and prospects. The promotion emphasizes the accomplishments of student-athletes in and out of competition.
