Following is a summary of Division I news from the week of July 20-24.

  • Fans of the Southeastern Conference will have several new ways to watch their favorite teams: The SEC publicized a deal with FSN to broadcast several conference events and then announced the creation of the SEC Network, a collaboration with ESPN that will broadcast syndicated events to nearly half of American homes.
  • The Patriot League will consider offering football scholarships after Fordham declared its intent to do so earlier this summer. The league, founded around football, will make its decision by December 2010.
  • Centenary (Louisiana) announced plans to reclassify to Division III as soon as its two-year commitment to the Summit League ends. The school believes Division III more closely reflects its mission.
  • Women’s basketball coaches commented on the experience of mock selections, held last week at the NCAA national office.
