Following is a summary of Division I news from the week of July 13-17.

  • The Division I Financial Aid Cabinet began a review of grants-in-aid rules. The cabinet will consider feedback from financial aid professionals as well as look for ways that athletics departments can save money by changing policies.
  • A group of Division I women’s basketball coaches participated in mock selections conducted by national office staff. NCAA News Associate Director Greg Johnson live-blogged from the event.
  • The Leadership Council approved the addition of four new Division I members and five multidivisional members in specific sports.
  • The Committee on Academic Performance granted the staff additional authority in waiving the more serious Academic Performance Program penalties and will allow the final appellate body – the subcommittee of the Board of Directors – the ability to remand appeals back to CAP.
  • Former Pacific-10 Conference Commissioner Wiles Hallock died July 13. Hallock oversaw the expansion of the conference in 1978. He was 91.
