The following is a summary of Division I news from the week of May18-22.

  • The Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee presented its first National SAAC Awards of Excellence to Oregon and North Dakota State for community service initiatives the groups created.
  • The Honors Committee and Initial-Eligibility Waivers Committee are both seeking Division I members for January 2010 vacancies.
  • In its second year of existence, the Detroit men’s lacrosse team will join the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men’s Lacrosse League. The league is facing the loss of three associate members in the next few years.
  • UC Irvine dedicated Cicerone Field this week, named for former chancellor Ralph J. Cicerone. Cicerone is the president of the National Academy of Sciences.
