Following is a summary of Division I news from the week of May 11-15.

  • Sand volleyball was voted an emerging sport for women by both Division I and Division II. A three-part series in The NCAA News examined several aspects of the sport, including playing rules, playing and practice season policies, financial aid and uniforms. While the NCAA is still early in the sand game, here’s what we know so far.
  • The Amateurism Cabinet is set to review rules governing amateurism of prospective student-athletes, particularly a policy that means recruits who participate on a team with a paid teammate professionalize themselves. Cabinet Chair Mike Rogers is among those who believe the rule is unfair.
  • The Division I Board of Directors meeting marked the close of the 2008-09 legislative cycle. See what happened to the proposals in the most recent cycle.
