The NCAA News

Following is a summary of Division I news from the week of April 6-10.

Connecticut defeated Louisville in the Division I Women’s Basketball Championship game, while North Carolina won its title game against Michigan State for the men’s crown.

Massachusetts cut its skiing program in an attempt to make up for a large budget shortfall. Both the men’s and women’s teams will transition to club status.

Two Atlantic-10 men’s tennis coaches met on the court last weekend, not an unusual occurrence. But Charlotte coach Jim Boykins is accustomed to seeing Richmond coach Billy Boykins – his son – in less competitive settings. The first match since Billy became the coach for the Spiders went to the father, but the two teams could meet again as early as the conference tournament.

The Ohio Valley Conference named associate commissioner/chief operation officer Brad Walker to the commissioner’s post on an interim basis. Walker replaces Jon Steinbrecher, who resigned to become commissioner of the Mid-American Conference.
