The NCAA News

The following is a summary of Division I news published between December 22-January 9.

•         The Student-Athlete Benefits, Awards and Financial Aid Cabinet will research best practices for hearings conducted when a student-athlete’s aid is reduced or revoked. The group hopes the project will help provide more consistency within the division.

•         The Division I Issues/Legislative Forum will have a new look at the 2009 NCAA Convention, structured around the reorganization of the governance structure. The membership will have an opportunity to hear from each governance body – including the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee – during the two sessions.

•         The Communications and Coordination Committee, composed of the chairs of each of the six cabinets and two councils in the reorganized governance structure, is striving to make sure that the groups work together and share priorities.

•         The December 3 Michigan State-North Carolina men’s basketball game in Detroit served as a “dry run” for the NCAA, CBS Sports and the city for the 2009 Men’s Final Four at Ford Field on April 4 and 6.
