Stanford’s Candice Wiggins took possession of the Pac-10’s career scoring record March 2 when the Cardinal beat Washington State, 74-52.

Wiggins scored 24 points in the win, surpassing former Southern California star Lisa Leslie just before halftime with a base-line drive to score her 2,416th point. Leslie scored 2,414 points during her career, which ran from 1991 to 1994. Another Southern California star, Cheryl Miller, tallied 3,018 points in her career, but played before the formation of Pac-10 women’s basketball in 1986.

After Wiggins broke the record, play was temporarily suspended to mark her accomplishment. She received the ball and congratulations from both teams and the fans.

The victory gave Stanford (27-3) at least a share of the conference regular-season championship and the top seed in the conference tournament.
