By the time the last sibling graduates in 2010, Eastern Illinois golf coach Mike Moncel will have had an Imburgia in his lineup for the better part of a decade. For the last four seasons, he had three.

Of the five golfing Imburgias, four attended Eastern Illinois and played golf there – Anthony, who graduated in 2007; twins Mike and Matt, who will graduate this year; and Katie, a sophomore. During the 2006-07 season, all four golfed for the Panthers. With all the siblings playing for the same team, the Imburgia family was able to make tournaments a family affair.

“We have all played together since we were little kids,” Matt said in a recent interview. “Last year was a big bonus for all of us to have Anthony, Mike, Katie and myself all playing on the same team.”

Oldest sister Diane also played collegiate golf, for Division III Millikin University. Diane and Anthony are both enrolled in dental school now. Mike, Matt and Katie all have law school in their future plans.

Katie said she’ll miss having her brothers around when the twins graduate next year – they’ve helped her focus on her studies and her sport.

“Watching them all succeed has been the most fun for me,” she said. “Last year, Anthony earned Academic all-American honors, and he was so excited about that. Watching his excitement motivates me to work hard in school and at golf.”
