Nov 14, 2008 11:26:19 AM

Following is a summary of Division I news from the week of November 10-14.

  • The Big East Conference selected Senior Associate Commissioner John Marinatto to replace Commissioner Mike Tranghese when Tranghese retires at the end of June 2009. Marinatto has been with the conference since 2002 and spent more than a dozen years in athletics at Providence.
  • Division I will examine electronic coursework at the 2009 Convention in Washington, D.C., and the topic is one that is important to faculty athletics representatives. The proposals, which would allow some nontraditional coursework for different eligibility purposes, are a first step toward changing the way education is delivered to student-athletes. The Double-A Zone featured a post examining the issue. Click here to share your thoughts.
  • Boston College unveiled a bronze statue of former student-athlete Doug Flutie. Installed outside Alumni Stadium, the tribute depicts Flutie about to release his famous “Hail Mary” pass at Miami in 1984.
