The NCAA News

Following is a summary of Division I news from the week of November 3-7.

• The Division I Leadership Council began its review of membership standards, a topic assigned to them after the Board of Directors instituted a moratorium on new members in 2007. Balancing the need to reinforce the desirable brand of Division I with the goal of allowing access to the division will help guide future discussions.

• The Women’s College Cup semifinals and finals in Cary, North Carolina have sold out. Every year Cary has hosted the event (2003, 2004 and 2006), it has sold out. It is the first event to be held in an NCAA-designated “Championship City.”

• Louisiana Tech’s football team toured Pearl Harbor and West Point on recent game trips to Hawaii and Army, respectively. Head coach Derek Dooley is committed to giving his student-athletes an educational experience associated with road trips.

• The Big Ten Conference used an NCAA grant to launch the “Get to Know Her” campaign, a women’s basketball promotion that brings a personal face to student-athletes in the conference.
