The following is a summary of Division I news from the week of May 12-16.

  • The Wrestling Committee recommended modifications to the selection process that will use current-year results to determine allocations in the 2009 NCAA championships. Previous selections included past performances. The recommendation will be reviewed by the Championships/Competition Cabinet June 24-26.
  • Navy dedicated its new field house to its first African-American graduate and former cross country student-athlete, Wesley A. Brown. The facility, which will be used by several of Navy’s NCAA teams, including track and field.
  • Northeastern SID Jack Grinold donated $1 million to the school’s athletics department, the largest donation ever made by a staff member.
  • Former UCLA softball coach Sue Enquist will be part of the first class inducted into the International Women’s Sports Hall of Fame in New York City next month. Enquist retired from UCLA in 2005 after spending 30 years with the program as a coach and player.
