The following is a summary of Division I news from the week of April 21-25.

  • The 712 public recognition awards for teams placing in the top 10 percent of their sport in the multi-year Academic Progress Rate calculation were announced. Nearly 12 percent of the 6,110 Division I teams were recognized. Click here for more information.
  • The Committee on Academic Performance met early this week and continued its discussion about transfer student-athletes. The committee plans to evaluate allowing greater flexibility in the APR calculation for transfer student-athletes meeting specific criteria.
  • Nike named a building after Vivian Stringer, women’s basketball coach at Rutgers. The building will serve as a teaching building for children and will open in June. Stringer won her 800th game earlier this year.
  • The Division I Board of Directors approved the slate of nominees for the reorganized Division I structure, including candidates for the Leadership and Legislative Councils. The Board members also reviewed and adopted legislation forwarded to them by the Management Council.
