Division I Notes: Michigan to upgrade stadium

Facilities: Michigan will improve wheelchair access at Michigan Stadium, adding 96 accessible seats plus seats for companions along the east side of the stadium. By the start of the 2010 season, at least 329 accessible seats and seats for companions (including seats in the student section) will be available. Improvements will also be made to the parking, access routes, restrooms and concessions over the next three years. The school is increasing the overall capacity of the facility to 108,000.

Conferences: US Lacrosse, the national governing body of the sport, will promote the Patriot League’s 2008 men’s and women’s lacrosse championships. The agreement will give discounted admission to both events to the 200,000 members of the governing body, and US Lacrosse will help publicize a designated home game during the regular season for all league teams. The conference championships will be April 25 and April 27 at the site of the highest seed … The West Coast Conference revealed it will move its conference men’s basketball tournament to Las Vegas in 2009. The 7,471-seat Orleans Arena will be the first neutral site arena in the conference tournament’s history. In the recent past, the tournament has rotated among member schools in southern California, northern California or the Pacific Northwest. San Diego is the 2008 host … The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference honored St. Peter’s Athletics Director Bill Stein for his 28 years of service. Stein recently announced his retirement.

Miscellaneous: Four Winston-Salem State alumni and their spouses donated $12,000 to the athletics department. The donation, from Eugene and Wilma Weeks, John Sigers, Edna Sigers and William and Juanita Bowman Tatum, will fund a technology upgrade. Athletics Director Tonia Walker said the upgrades would enhance recruiting and scouting technology. “It’s always great to see alumni step forward and get involved with the projects and initiatives in our Division I transition,” she said.
