Conferences: DIRECTV will begin offering the Mountain West channel, MountainWest Sports Network (The Mtn.) no later than September 1. The Mtn. was the first network dedicated to a college conference. Consumers with questions about which DIRECTV package will carry The Mtn. in their area should visit http://www.directv.comfor updates.

Facilities:Idaho State received a land donation valued at $1.6 million from alumna Sylvia Papenberg. The donation of 40 acres in eastern Idaho’s Teton Valley will go toward the proposed Bengal Village athletics complex. It is the largest single donation in the department’s history. The school will name the new outdoor practice facility for the team Papenberg Field in honor of Papenberg and her husband, alumnus Don “Pappy” Pappenberg, who died earlier this year. While a student at Idaho State, Sylvia Papenberg played softball, volleyball and basketball in the school’s club system. Her husband was a football student-athlete in 1959-60.

Miscellaneous:Long Beach State launched a new Web site last week, adding an online store, the ability to buy tickets to 49ers events and follow games through Gametracker. The school will continue to provide scores, free audio and paid Webcasts for many athletics events … Georgia State baseball coach Greg Frady has taken a leave of absence to coach the German national Team in the Olympic qualification tournament in Taiwan. Frady left February 27 to begin coaching exhibition matches, and the tournament runs March 7-14. He took over the German team in 2004 … Cal State San Bernardino hosted its first-ever “Think Pink” night last month, raising $1,600 for Susan G. Komen For the Cure and several hair donations for Locks of Love. The donations were raised from fans attending the February 21 women’s basketball game against Cal Poly Pomona. One of the Locks of Love donations came from men’s basketball student-athlete James Estrada, who had been growing his hair since 2005.
