Facilities: Northern Arizona will implement a multi-year plan to renovate its athletics facilities. Students, faculty, staff and community members worked together to produce a document that calls for a new women's soccer, women's golf, volleyball and tennis facilities, a new multi-use arena for basketball, concerts and community activities as well as major renovation of the Walkup Skydome and the swimming and track and field facilities. The $162 million project will provide the campus with distinct athletics areas and will keep the institution in compliance with federal requirements calling for equal facilities for men and women. Four phases are planned for the project, which is scheduled for completion in 2012. "This is a plan to construct athletics facilities that will serve the campus and community for the next 40 years," said Mason Gerety, chair of the task force that made the recommendations and dean of business school.

Milestones: Utah State's Stew Morrill became the winningest coach in school history when his men's basketball team beat Boise State January 17. He won his 226th game at the school, breaking E. Lowell Romney's record of 225. Morrill's overall record, which includes stints at Colorado State and Montana, is 444-218.
