The Division I Board of Directors will discuss the infractions penalty structure and also the possibility of publishing the Academic Progress Rates of head coaches during its October 30 meeting in Indianapolis. The presidents also have championships travel and key proposals in the 2008-09 legislative cycle on their agenda.

The Board will receive a report from the Division I Committee on Infractions about restructuring the penalties assessed for major rules violations. The committee reviewed the penalty structures used by the Committee on Academic Performance; the Student-Athlete Reinstatement Committee; and the agents, gambling and amateurism staff.

The CAP will report to the Board on the work of a subgroup formed to examine the possibility of connecting Academic Performance Program data to head coaches. A group of CAP members worked with a subset of the Board on the feasibility of publishing the APR a coach’s team earns each year.

Additionally, the Board will discuss recent changes in the travel industry and how increased expenses have affected the division. The group will review a variety of recommendations and policy changes vetted by the Championships/Sport Management Cabinet, as well as a timeline for future action.

Finally, the Board will review significant proposals in the legislative cycle, including several proposals altering the length of the baseball season. Since the governance structure was reorganized earlier this fall, the Board will have the opportunity to review specific pieces of legislation in January without voting on every item.
