Atlantic Sun members South Carolina Upstate and North Florida both announced plans for new track facilities in the coming months.

North Florida’s Hodges Stadium complex will boast a new surface from Mondo Corporation. The only other stadiums using the surface are Arizona State and the Olympic facility in Beijing. Northern Florida will host the 2009 and 2010 outdoor track and field championships.

The stadium also houses a lighted field and nine-lane track, classrooms, the Browning Athletic Training and Education Center, and office space.

Dan Adams, a 1983 graduate of South Carolina Upstate, donated a lead gift to his alma mater for the construction of the Dan Adams Track and Field Complex.

The planned $3 million project would give track and field its own on-campus facility. Currently, the student-athletes train at various locations throughout the Spartanburg area. Of the school’s 17 athletics teams, track and field and golf are the only programs that do not have on-campus practice facilities.

Construction on the new complex could begin within the next year, depending on funding.
