Winthrop University has tabbed Sally Schulte Polhamus as its head women’s volleyball coach.

Polhamus spent the past five years as an assistant at Georgia Tech. She also has worked at Indiana and Dayton. While at Georgia Tech, Polhamus served as the team’s primary recruiter.

As a student-athlete, Polhamus was a four-time all-conference selection at Xavier, earning all-Midwestern Collegiate Conference honors in 1993 and 1994 and first-team all-Atlantic 10 honors in 1995 and 1996. She finished her career as the school’s leader in kills and was second all-time in digs. In 2005, Polhamus was inducted into the Xavier Athletic Hall of Fame, the first such honor for a volleyball student-athlete.

Polhamus succeeds Joel McCartney, who left in December to take over the program at Georgia.
