Tommy Riggs, the associate athletics director for marketing and promotion at Pittsburg State University, died Saturday of an apparent heart attack. Riggs was 32.

Riggs had been on a family outing in the Kansas City area when he was stricken. Attempts to revive him on the way to the hospital were unsuccessful.

A graduate of Pittsburg State, Riggs never left the university, working in the athletics department for the past nine years. He served as an associate director of athletics for the past four years.

Riggs oversaw the school’s comprehensive licensing programs and handled advertising and corporate sponsorship programs. He also assisted in event scheduling and fund-raising efforts.
