Longtime assistant Ken Niumatalolo was named head football coach at Navy. He replaces Paul Johnson, who was named head coach at Georgia Tech.

Niumatalolo has had two coaching stints at Navy for a combined 10 seasons, including the last six as assistant head coach and offensive line coach. After leaving Navy in 1998, Niumatalolo spent three seasons as an assistant at UNLV before returning to Annapolis.

A 1989 graduate of Hawaii, Niumatalolo spent three years on the coaching staff at his alma mater. He is believed to be the first coach of Polynesian descent in NCAA history.
