Chancellors and presidents

Joanne Glasser was named president at Bradley. She previously served as president at Eastern Kentucky … Mildred García was hired as president at Cal State Dominguez Hills … Florida Gulf Coast hired Wilson Bradshaw as president … Joel Press was selected as chancellor at Long Island.

Directors of athletics

Kevin Hatcher has been hired at Cal State San Bernardino. Currently the senior associate athletics director for external and internal relations at Colgate, Hatcher will start his new job in November … Jeff Long was named director of athletics at Arkansas, effective January 1. Long has spent the past four years at the helm of the Pittsburgh athletics department. He also has worked at Oklahoma, Eastern Kentucky, Virginia Tech, Michigan, Rice, Duke and North Carolina State. He replaces Frank Broyles.

Associate director of athletics

New York U. promoted Noah LeFevre.

Assistant directors of athletics

Brent Williamson was named assistant athletics director for media relations at Wofford. He spent the last four years in the same capacity at Maine … Candy Young Sanders was named interim assistant athletics director and senior woman administrator at Delaware State. Sanders is in her second year as head coach of the women’s cross country and track and field programs.

Coaches

Baseball — Lawrence selected Mike Barthelmess as interim coach … Former Cal State Fullerton baseball coach George Horton has been named as the new head coach at Oregon. The two-time national coach of the year will help Oregon launch its program in 2009 after a 26-year hiatus. Horton signed a five-year contract.

Baseball assistants — Mike Reed was added to the Holy Cross staff. Reed was formerly the head coach at Clark and Babson … Oregon added Andrew Checketts to its coaching staff.


Men’s basketball — Al Skinner signed an extension with Boston College through 2013. Skinner has won 196 games in 10 seasons with the Eagles … Holy Cross signed Ralph Willard to a five-year contract extension that will keep him with the program through 2013 … After 25 years and 483 wins, Charles Brown announced his retirement from New Jersey City.


Men’s basketball assistants — Mark Gaffney was named at Hamilton … Mark Daigneault was added to the Holy Cross staff … Wofford tabbed Michael Boynton Jr. as associate head coach … Delaware chose Saul Rafel-Frankel as director of basketball operations … Kentucky hired Tracy Webster as an assistant coach. Webster spent the last three years working with the Illinois program.


Women’s basketball — Former Colgate assistant Sean Mackin was selected as head women’s coach at Hamilton. He replaces G.P. Gromacki, who accepted the top post at Amherst … Doug Bruno has agreed to a contract extension with DePaul. Bruno has led the Blue Demons to five consecutive NCAA tournament appearances and is entering his 22nd season with the program … Cazenovia hired Kendra Reichert to lead its program. Currently the school’s assistant director of athletics, Reichert played basketball at Denison from 1998-2002. She also serves as Cazenovia’s senior woman administrator … Daniel Webster named Heather Jacobs head coach. Jacobs is a 2006 graduate of Franklin Pierce … Kate Bowes was hired at Rutgers-Camden. She replaces Jean Gyurics.


Women’s basketball assistants — Annie Thomas was selected at Cleveland State … Allison Pate was named director of women’s basketball operations at Delaware … Winthrop hired Chris Vozab. She spent the last three seasons with Canisius … Chatham tabbed Dave Martin … Shannon Reid has resigned her post at Clayton State to accept a similar position at Albany.


Men’s and women’s cross country assistant — Hilbert chose Sue Devlin as assistant men’s and women’s coach.


Equestrian assistant — Lisa Helfer was hired at Auburn.


Fencing assistant — New York U. added Lauren Willock to its staff.


Football — Texas extended the contract of Mack Brown through the 2016 season … Nebraska inked Bill Callahan to a three-year contract extension through 2011.


Football assistants — Hamilton added Nathan Eaton, Chris Avery, Jerry Tine and Jacob Kees to its staff … Trinity (Connecticut) hired Michael Blair … Cheyney named Barry Casterlin, Greg Harris, Keith Humphrey, Ashley Lord, Lou Orth and Roland Weeden assistant coaches.


Men’s and women’s golf — Colgate hired Robert Gifford. The head women’s coach at Syracuse from 1999-2006, Gifford replaces Marian Blain.


Men’s and women’s golf assistant — New York U. selected Todd Spenla as a men’s and women’s coach.


Men’s and women’s ice hockey — Former Bowdoin and Dartmouth standout Kristin Anderson has joined the Hamilton staff. She also will coach field hockey.


Men’s and women’s ice hockey assistant — Holy Cross named Rob Godfrey director of hockey operations. Godfrey also will serve as an assistant equipment manager for the athletics department and an assistant women’s ice hockey coach.


Men’s and women’s lacrosse — Carissa Medeiros was hired as head coach at Bentley. A Stonehill graduate, Medeiros also served on the coaching staff at her alma mater … Albany signed men’s coach Scott Marr to a three-year extension … Dana Lindstrom was named head coach of the Gwynedd-Mercy men’s lacrosse program, which will begin intercollegiate competition this spring.


Men’s and women’s lacrosse assistants — Bryant added Peter Toner and Tom Spinella to its men’s staff … Holy Cross tabbed Abby Mead to assist with its women’s program. Mead served as an assistant at Kenyon last season.


Rowing assistant — Stephanie Hopf was chosen as an assistant at Colgate.

Men’s and women’s soccer — Gwynedd-Mercy tabbed Neil Johnson as its women’s coach.

Men’s and women’s soccer assistants — Clark added Heather Lipp as an assistant coach and Tedi Link as a graduate assistant with the women’s program … Hamilton added former Le Moyne student-athlete Amanda Nobis as an assistant coach in women’s soccer and women’s lacrosse … Mark Sutton has joined the Clark staff as an assistant and strength and conditioning coach.


Softball — After two seasons as a volunteer assistant, Brian Wolverton will take over the Rutgers-Camden softball program. Wolverton helped lead the Lady Raptors to the 2006 Division III national title.


Softball assistant — Kentucky hired Jodi Chmielewski to work with outfielders and pitchers.


Men’s and women’s swimming and diving — Rowan tabbed Miki Lambert to lead its program … Kurt Kirner has stepped down from his post at Lawrence. He has accepted a position at Hillsdale as assistant professor and women’s swim coach.


Men’s and women’s tennis — Tim Plyler was named women’s coach at Maryville (Missouri). Plyler will also serve as an assistant with the men’s basketball program.


Men’s and women’s tennis assistant — Katherine Hangstefer will assist the men’s and women’s programs at Wofford.


Men’s and women’s track and field — Mike Dager will take over the Gwynedd-Mercy indoor and outdoor programs … Indiana (Pennsylvania) selected Ralph White as head coach. White previously coached at Williams, where he led the women’s program to last year’s indoor national title.


Men’s and women’s track and field assistants — Derek Yush has joined the LSU staff as throws coach. Yush spent the last eight seasons at Rhode Island … Albany added Matthew Jones and Jennifer Fazioli to its staff.


Men’s and women’s volleyball — Rowan selected Libby Ranero as its women’s coach … Jim Stone has announced he will retire as women’s coach at Ohio State at season’s end. He has spent the last 26 seasons leading the program … Rich Comly was named head coach of the Gwynedd-Mercy program.


Men’s and women’s volleyball assistant — Rich Szura was added to the women’s staff at Felician.


Wrestling — Trinity (Connecticut) hired Stephen Makein to lead its program. He replaces Keith Poloskey.

Staff

Athletic trainers — Trinity (Connecticut) tabbed Justin DeLuc as its head athletic trainer and Adam Pallone and Charity Shrovnal as athletic trainers … Jason Bushie was hired as an athletic trainer at Colorado College. Bushie had worked at Minnesota State since 2001. He replaces Richard Quincy.


Assistant athletic trainer — Becky Osier joined the athletic training staff at Hamilton as an assistant.


Sports information assistants — Bob Healy was appointed at Hamilton … Morgan Lunsford was selected as assistant sports information director at Tusculum … Washington hired Michael Bruscas as assistant director of communications.


Conferences


West Coast Conference Commissioner Mike Gilleran announced his retirement, effective May 31. A former member of the enforcement staff at the NCAA national office, Gilleran has been at the helm of the WCC since 1984 … The Big South Conference named Mark Bryant coordinator of new media … The Sunshine State Conference hired Noel Beaulieu as assistant commissioner for external operations and promoted Kelly Harrison to assistant commissioner for internal operations … Jason Erickson joined the Western Athletic Conference as associate director of media relations. Erickson spent the last four years at Idaho State.


Associations


Gothard Lane was named executive director of the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association. Lane joins the IWLAC after serving as director of championships at the Eastern College Athletic Conference for the past two years. He previously held positions at St. Bonaventure and Maryland. Lane takes over for Jenn Harpel.


Deaths


Former Louisiana Tech wide receiver Tommy Spinks died. He was 58 … Former Washington football player James Cain died … Former Princeton basketball player Butch van Breda Kolff died August 22. After his playing days, van Breda Kolff coached at Lafayette, Hofstra, New Orleans and his alma mater … Former Clemson basketball standout Clarke Bynum died at the age of 45.
