Faculty athletics representative


Cincinnati named Fritz Russ as its faculty athletics representative. Russ is the school’s senior vice provost and professor of marketing.


Associate directors of athletics

Army hired Monica Love as associate athletics director for compliance and academics. Love recently served as assistant director of athletics for compliance and enhancement at Baylor. She has also worked at Tulane and Iowa … Greg Lees was named associate director of athletics for development at Northern Arizona. Lees served as an assistant football coach at the school for the past eight years. He replaces Larry Aschebrook, who accepted a position at West Virginia … Wyoming selected Josh Rebholz as associate director of athletics for development.

Coaches

Baseball assistant — Brian Lang­an was named pitching coach at Felician, joining his brothers Chris and Steve on the staff. Chris Langan is the team’s head coach.
Women’s basketball — Felician removed head coach Jay Latko. Director of athletics Ben DiNallo Jr. will serve as interim coach.

Field hockey — Massachusetts tabbed Justine Sowry as its head coach.

Football — Georgia Southern named Chris Hatcher as its head football coach … David Bailiff was tabbed to lead the Rice program … Central Washington selected Beau Baldwin as head coach … Bobby Bentley was named head coach at Presbyterian … Army football coach Bobby Ross retired after three seasons at the helm in West Point. He will be succeeded by offensive line coach Stan Brock, who played for the San Diego Chargers while Ross was head coach … Dennis Parker was named head coach at Texas Lutheran.

Football assistants
— LSU selected Gary Crowton as offensive coordinator and Greg Studrawa as offensive line coach … Bill Bedenbaugh will lead the offensive line at Arizona … Miami tabbed Patrick Nix as offensive coordinator … Corwin Brown will serve as defensive coordinator at Notre Dame and Ron Powlus will lead the quarterbacks … Tulsa chose Paul Randolph as associate head football coach and defensive coordinator … Former North Carolina State head coach Chuck Amato will head to Florida State as executive head coach and linebacker coach … Nevada added Jim House and Charlie Camp to its coaching staff. House will serve as defensive line coach while Camp will lead the linebackers … Marietta promoted Sean Smith to co-offensive coordinator. Smith played football and baseball during his days as a student-athlete at Marshall … Rice added Chuck Driesbach, Darin Eliot and Jason Washington to its staff … North Carolina State hired Mike Reed and Andy McCollum as assistants … Casey Horny, Kevin Brown, Charlie Reeve, Michael Salinas and Greg Walls were added to the Texas State staff. Kyle Tietz was promoted to co-defensive coordinator … UCLA selected Jay Norvell as offensive coordinator. Norvell previously served as an assistant coach at Nebraska. He replaces Jim Svoboda … South Florida promoted Greg Gregory to offensive coordinator … Todd Berry was chosen as offensive coordinator at UNLV … Central Michigan added Mike Bajakian to the staff. Bajakian will serve as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach … Minnesota hired Everett Withers and Mike Dunbar … Southern California offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin was named head coach of the Oakland Raiders … Alabama assistant Steve Marshall accepted a position with the Cleveland Browns.


Men’s and women’s golf — Michele Drinkard
was selected as women’s coach at Samford … Brown tabbed Danielle Griffiths as women’s coach and assistant director of golf.


Men’s and women’s soccer — Mike Barr
was named head men’s coach at Immaculata. He replaces Seamus O’Connor … Paula Wilkins resigned her post as women’s coach at Penn State and accepted the same post at Wisconsin … Molloy hired Daniel Longo as head men’s soccer coach. Longo was a three-year starter during his time as a student-athlete at C.W. Post, graduating in 1998 with a degree in elementary education. After graduation, Longo returned to C.W. Post as an assistant coach and was named head coach in 2002.  He spent the last five seasons at the helm.


Softball — Jenny Gustin
was appointed interim softball coach at Lander. Gustin spent the past two seasons as an assistant at North Carolina-Pembroke after a four-year playing career at Elon. She succeeds Lee Dobbins … Dennis Shores was named head coach at Guilford. Shores spent the past three seasons as an assistant at Neumann, helping the Knights compile a 60-52 record.  He replaces Ty Cook.


Softball assistant
— Felician tab­bed Holly Van Dyke as an assistant. Van Dyke was a four-year starter at second base for the Golden Falcons and graduated in 2006.


Men’s and women’s tennis
— Marist named Roge Nesbitt as women’s coach … Robert Morris tabbed Jeff Layman as its new men’s and women’s coach. After graduating from Clemson in 1987, Layman competed on the ATP Tour for three years. He replaces Misha Kouznetsov.


Men’s and women’s tennis assistant — Nicholas Mueller
was selected as an assistant women’s coach at Virginia Tech.


Men’s and women’s volleyball —
Florida Tech named Qi Wang as the school’s head women’s coach. Wang spent the past two seasons leading the Northern Michigan program and has also coached at Truman. In six years as a head coach, Wang has compiled a 164-40 record … Army hired Alma Kovaci as its head volleyball coach. Kovaci served as the program’s assistant coach for the past four seasons. She succeeds Glen Conley, who accepted a similar position at Kent State.

Staff

Facilities — Wartburg named James Langel as executive director of the Wartburg-Waverly Sports and Wellness Center. Langel previously worked as associate director of wellness and education services, facilities and operations at Northern Iowa.

Marketing —
Northern Arizona selected Ashley Hammarstrom as marketing and promotions coordinator.


Sports information — James Zuhlke
was named sports information director at West Chester. Zuhlke spent the past seven years working as assistant director of athletics communications at Army.


Sports information assistant —
Norfolk State added Karen Carty as an assistant sports information director. Carty has worked in the school’s sports information office on a part-time basis for the past two years.

Conferences

Scott Meyer was tabbed as communications director for Colonial Athletic Association football. Meyer has worked in media relations at Kansas and Richmond. The inaugural CAA football season kicks off this fall … The Western Athletic Conference named Elizabeth Kampfe as director of championships. Kampfe most recently served as assistant event manager in the Kentucky athletics department.
Associations

Pat Henry
was named president of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The longtime women’s track and field coach at LSU, Henry led the Lady Tigers to 12 NCAA outdoor team championships, including 11 in a row from 1987-97. Henry left LSU in 2004 to become head coach at Texas A&M. Henry replaces Emporia State’s Dave Harris as president.

Notables

Mike Montoro received the Wilbur Snypp Award, which is presented annually by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association for outstanding contributions to college baseball. Montoro is the associate director of athletics for media relations at Southern Mississippi and currently serves as the assistant executive director of the NCBWA.

Deaths

Former Delaware defensive back Rick Cowen died December 27 … Gifford Ramsey, a former all-American football player at Florida A&M, died at the age of 47 … Former Minnesota wrestling coach Wally Johnson died January 24. He was 91 … Former Niagara basketball standout Baltico Erias died.
