Cynthia Gabel, assistant athletics director at Missouri-Kansas City, died August 20 after a battle with cancer at the age of 52.

During her eight years at UMKC, Gabel handled compliance and eligibility issues for the school’s varsity programs. Additionally, she served as sport supervisor for a number of teams and as the athletics department’s senior woman administrator.

Before her stint at UMKC, Gabel spent 19 years on the NCAA national office enforcement staff. She spent much of her tenure processing secondary rules infractions and conducting educational sessions for member institutions across the country.

Gabel served as a liaison to the NCAA Divisions I, II and III Committees on Infractions. She was a 1976 graduate of Northwest Missouri State.
