Cushman joins Washington and Lee staff

Division III Management Council Chair Val Cushman resigned her post as athletics director and chair of the physical education department at Randolph College. Cushman will be replaced by Heather Somers, who was appointed interim director of athletics.
Cushman will maintain her post with the Management Council after accepting a position as executive assistant to the president at Washington and Lee University, effective October 10.
In addition to her role as Division III Management Council chair, Cushman has served on the Committee on Women’s Athletics. In October, she will be honored by the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA) as one of its Administrator of the Year award recipients.
Cushman has spent the last 10 years at the helm of the Randolph athletics department, serving as a coach, administrator and professor.
