The American Southwest Conference named Amy Carlton as its new commissioner. Carlton has served as interim commissioner since July 1.

Carlton joined the conference office as director of media relations in 2002 and was promoted to assistant commissioner one year later. She has spent more than 20 years on college and university campuses, including 13 ½ years in sports information. Carlton has worked at Michigan, Northern Illinois, Western Illinois and Manchester. She began her professional career as assistant director of the news bureau at Franklin.

The second full-time commissioner of the ASC, Carlton becomes one of 12 women who serve as commissioner of a Division III conference. She replaces Fred Jacoby, who retired in June after 10 years as commissioner.
