Four institutions, conference gain active membership

Four institutions have been approved for active membership in Division III beginning September 1.

The schools, which successfully completed provisional membership this year, are:

Green Mountain College of Poultney, Vermont, which completed reclassification from Division II.

  • Keystone College of La Plume, Pennsylvania, competing in the North Eastern Athletic Conference.
  • The University of Texas at Tyler, competing in the American Southwest Conference.
  • Tri-State University of Angola, Indiana, competing in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
  • The institutions� active membership was approved by the Division III Management and Presidents Councils, which also approved active membership for the recently formed Landmark Conference. The conference�s members are Catholic University of America, Drew University, Goucher College, Juniata College, Moravian College, the University of Scranton, Susquehanna University and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
  • In other actions, the Division III governance bodies:
  • Moved Crown College (Minnesota); the University of Maine, Presque Isle; Mount Aloysius College; and Penn State Berks College, from the third to the fourth year of provisional membership, along with reclassifying member University of Minnesota, Morris. The institutions will be eligible for active membership in 2008-09.
  • Approved accelerating Bethany Lutheran College; Northwestern College (Minnesota); Purchase College State University of New York; and Salem College from the second year into the fourth year of provisional membership, These schools also will be eligible for active membership in 2008-09.
  • Moved Mount Mary College to the fourth year of provisional membership but required the institution to comply fully for two years with NCAA legislation and also meet other conditions imposed by the committee before attaining active membership in 2009-10.
  • Moved Mitchell College, North Central University and Presentation College from the second to the third year of provisional membership.
  • Determined that La Sierra University must repeat the second year of provisional membership, based on concerns about sports sponsorship.
  • Moved Lyndon State College, Lancaster Bible College, Saint Vincent College and Morrisville State College from the first to the second year of provisional membership.
