Conferences: The Big 12 Conference announced its Good Works Team for spring sports, recognizing student-athletes for their community service and academic standing. Those honored are Lyndsy Bedell, track and field student-athlete at Baylor University; Pat Grady, golf student-athlete at the University of Colorado, Boulder; Kristen Karanzias, softball student-athlete at Iowa State University; Patrick McGowan, track and field student athlete at the University of Kansas; Brett Scott, baseball student-athlete at Kansas State University; Tyler Dailey, track and field student-athlete at the University of Missouri, Columbia; Jenny Green, track and field student-athlete at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln; Jamie Fox, softball student-athlete at the University of Oklahoma; Lauren Simmons, tennis student-athlete at Oklahoma State University;  Meagan Denny, softball student-athlete at the University of Texas at Austin; Matt Van Zandt, golf student-athlete at Texas A&M University, College Station; and Dimitrio Martinez, tennis student-athlete at Texas Tech University.

Milestones: Villanova University softball coach Maria DiBernardi earned her 600th career victory April 22 with a 1-0 win over Providence College. DiBernardi has coached her entire 23 seasons at Villanova, where she holds a 600-452-8 career record. Her players also succeed academically, with nine named to the College Sports Information Director’s Academic All-America lists ... University of Georgia senior hammer-throw student-athlete Jennifer Dahlgren broke her own NCAA record April 13 at the Spec Towns National Team Invitational and Bulldog Heptathlon. Dahlgren threw for 239 feet, four inches, breaking the NCAA record (which she held) of 236 feet, nine inches.

Miscellaneous: Texas State University-San Marcos will conduct a feasibility study on moving the institution’s football program to the Football Bowl Subdivision. The President’s Athletics Task Force, which has members from across the institution’s academic and athletics functions as well as the general public, will conduct the study. Officials do not expect to make a decision until June ... The University of Central Florida will drop “Golden” from its nickname beginning in June, opting to be known as simply the Knights. The new name and logo will be unveiled June 14, a few months before the university’s new Bright House Networks Stadium and the UCF Convocation Center open in August.
