Surprise victory on the pitch — The men’s soccer team from Indiana University, Bloomington, and the women’s squad from the University of South Carolina, Columbia, upset top-ranked opponents over the Labor Day weekend. Indiana’s Andy Adlard (above) helped the Hoosiers overcome No. 1-ranked University of California, Los Angeles, 1-0, while the South Carolina Gamecocks (right) handed perennial power University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, its first season-opening defeat in school history.
