Director of athletics

Kaia Hedlund was hired as director of athletics at Chaminade.

Associate directors of athletics

Campbell hired Debbie Snell as associate athletics director for compliance and academic services. Snell joins the Campbell staff after working as an assistant athletics director at Palm Beach Atlantic. She replaces Ed Pasque, who served in the position since September 2003 … Janet Kittell has been named associate athletics director at Indiana after spending the last 11 years in a similar capacity at Syracuse … Saint Louis selected Bill Thomas as associate director of athletics for business and facilities operations … Theresa Berg was named associate director of athletics at Niagara. She will also assume the designation of senior woman administrator … Marshall selected R.J. Gimbl as associate athletics director and executive director of the Big Green Scholarship Foundation.

Assistant directors of athletics

Adelphi promoted Suzette McQueen and Deneé Rivera to assistant directors of athletics. McQueen will assume duties as the program’s assistant athletics director of media relations and external affairs. Rivera was promoted to assistant athletics director after serving as events management/special projects coordinator. She will also assume the designation of senior woman administrator … Jimmy Henderson was named assistant athletics director for student-athlete academic success at Northern Colorado … Devlyn Lovell was selected as an assistant director of athletics at Massachusetts-Dartmouth. Lovell will also lead the Corsair track and field program.

Coaches

Baseball assistants – Penn State-Behrend selected Brian Hirschberg as an assistant coach … Longwood added Spencer Schmitz to its staff … Ozarks (Arkansas) added Justin Jennings and Bob Preli to its staff.

Men’s basketball – Winston-Salem State hired Bobby Collins as head coach. He replaces Philip Stitt.

Men’s basketball assistantsFran Snyder joined the staff at Hilbert … Scott Riley resigned his post as coordinator of men’s basketball operations at Loyola (Illinois) … Fordham added Jared Grasso to its staff. He replaces Alex GroothuisRhett Soliday was selected as an assistant at UC Irvine … David Grace joined the staff at Sacramento State. He replaces Lorenzo Watkins, who took a similar position at New Orleans … Justin Jennings joined the Penn State-Behrend staff … Brad Enright joined the Texas-Pan American staff as an assistant men’s basketball coach. Enright spent the past two seasons on the sidelines at Paris Junior College, where he helped lead the program to the 2005 NJCAA national championship … Richard Reed, who spent the past season as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Northern Colorado, was added to the staff at Sacramento State … Keith Sullivan was hired as an assistant coach at St. Lawrence … Ozarks (Arkansas) tabbed Alex Hausladen for the coaching staff … Wilkes named Mike Farrelly assistant coach. He replaces Mike Witkowski, who left for a position at Rider.

Women’s basketball assistantsMichelle Walsh was selected as an assistant at William Smith … Albany hired Glenn Senecal and Jolene Johnston as assistant coaches. Christine Roth will serve as director of operations … Rhode Island College tabbed Heather Pettigrew as an assistant coach … Becky Kimball was added to the Ozarks (Arkansas) staff.

Bowling – Adelphi named Robert Cincotta head coach of its newly formed program.

Men’s and women’s cross countryAdam Siepiola was named head coach of the cross country and track and field programs at Adelphi. He replaces Mike Belfiore, who will continue as assistant director of campus recreation … After 10 years at the helm of the Wisconsin-Eau Claire women’s cross country and track and field programs, Tracy Yengo has resigned her post. Chip Schneider, head coach of the men’s programs, will now serve as director of operations for both the men’s and women’s programs and Brian Falk will serve as head coach of the men’s and women’s teams.

Men’s and women’s cross country assistants – Longwood appointed Ray Kuhles as an assistant coach for both programs … Mike Barlett will serve as an assistant coach at Penn State-Behrend.

Football assistants – Kutztown added Jeff Chillot, Mike Silecchia, Michael Baldwin, Jarrad Brennan, David Hand and Tim Tobin to its staff … Brian Barbato, Michael Chaffee and James Simboli were named assistants at St. Lawrence.

Men’s and women’s golf – Penn State-Behrend hired James Bowen as head men’s and women’s coach. Rich Burlett joined the programs as an assistant.

Men’s and women’s ice hockey – Mercyhurst extended the contracts of men’s coach Rick Gotkin and women’s coach Michael Sisti through 2010 … John Burke signed a contract extension that will keep him with the Rensselaer women’s ice hockey program through 2010.

Men’s and women’s ice hockey assistantJosh Liegl was added to the women’s staff at Rensselaer.

Men’s and women’s lacrosse – Hamilton chose Scott Barnard as its new men’s coach. He succeeds Gene McCabe.

Rowing – Assumption tabbed Jason Boyle as head rowing coach. Boyle, a standout rower at California, replaces Alexandra Kazanovicz, who resigned after two seasons.

Rowing assistantPamela Besteman joined the Trinity (College) rowing staff as an assistant coach. She succeeds Chuck Rodosky.

Men’s and women’s soccerElizabeth Stone was tabbed as head women’s coach at Trinity (Washington). She will also serve as the school’s sports information director.

Men’s and women’s soccer assistantsRafael Diaz joined the men’s staff at Baruch … Bryant added Ria Carroll to its women’s staff … Cyrus Smith was named men’s and women’s assistant coach at Ozarks (Arkansas), while Trace Hollis was promoted to associate head men’s coach … Delaware added Stephanie Miller as an assistant women’s coach.

SoftballKerry Levett was named head coach at Hilbert. She replaces Bill Goc, who hired her as an assistant prior to the 2006 season … Joseph Burbridge is the new coach at Adelphi. He replaces Kate Whalen, who resigned after 13 years to become the associate commissioner of the East Coast Conference … Danielle Walsh will assume head coaching duties at Wentworth Institute. She succeeds Bob Long, who stepped down in June after 10 seasons at the helm … New York Institute of Technology tabbed Stephen Christianson as its new head softball coach.

Softball assistantsMichele Hawkins was hired at Emory … John Newman was hired as assistant softball coach at Ozarks (Arkansas).

Men’s and women’s swimming and diving – George Washington tabbed Mike Tober as diving coach for the men’s and women’s programs. He succeeds Katura Horton-Perinchief, who resigned to continue training to compete in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing … Joel Rollings was selected as swimming and diving coordinator at Wisconsin-Whitewater. He replaces Debbie Thompson, who left the head post in June.

Men’s and women’s tennisJason Akbar will take the reins of the men’s and women’s programs at Adelphi. Chris Lee will serve as his assistant … Missouri Western State hired Ron Selkirk as head women’s coach … Rob Welcher resigned as head men’s and women’s coach at Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Jerry Kollross will take the reins of the programs. Art Brandt was promoted to associate head coach.

Men’s and women’s tennis assistantsMeredith Vicent was chosen as an assistant coach of the women’s program at Emory … St. Lawrence added Tara Hartness to its coaching staff.

Men’s and women’s track and field assistantsBen Cesar resigned his post as associate coach at UC Irvine after eight years with the program … Erin Woodward and Matt Kuenzel will join the St. Lawrence programs.

Men’s and women’s volleyballPaul Yee was named interim men’s and women’s volleyball coach at Vassar … Chriss Mazzarella was selected as women’s coach at Adelphi. He replaces Joe Chojnacki, who resigned after three seasons … Trinity (Washington) named Elizabeth Schreiner as head women’s coach.

Men’s and women’s volleyball assistants – Emory added Susan Coole to its staff … Adrian Hicks was named an assistant women’s coach at Greensboro.

Wrestling assistantsDave Paquette and Keith Nelson joined the Rhode Island College staff … Austin DeVoe was added to the staff at Northern Colorado.

Staff

Academic servicesKathy Springfield was named academic services assistant at Stephen F. Austin.

AdministrativeJen Ogden joined the Penn State-Behrend staff as an administrative intern.

Athletic trainers Chad Jones joined the Trinity (Washington) staff as head athletic trainer … Michael Chan was promoted at Wayne State. He replaces Paul Schmidt, who moved to Illinois to serve as head women’s basketball trainer.

Assistant athletic trainerRenee Angotta was promoted at Adelphi after spending the previous two years as a graduate assistant.

Compliance – Saint Rose selected Diane Matthews as athletics administrator for compliance. She will also serve as an assistant track and field coach.

Development – Illinois-Chicago named Gregg Fort as executive director of the Big Red Fund.

Sports information – Wells tabbed Christian Gondek as sports information director.

Sports information assistants – Holy Cross named Jim Wrobel as assistant director of athletics media relations … Josh Jennings was hired at Saint Rose as assistant sports information director … Wingate tabbed Joe Weidman as assistant sports information director. He had served as an intern in the department for the past year.

Strength and conditioningDave Vitel resigned his post as head strength and conditioning coach at Loyola (Illinois) to accept a similar position with the Minnesota Timberwolves of the National Basketball Association.

Conferences

The California Collegiate Athletic Association named Alison Vidal director of championships and marketing … The East Coast Conference tabbed Chuck Sadowski as associate commissioner for media relations and director of championships … The Horizon League hired Joel Barnhill as assistant commissioner for marketing, licensing and event operations … The Atlantic-10 named Duane Bailey as associate commissioner. Bailey will serve as the chief financial officer for the conference and will also coordinate scheduling for men’s and women’s basketball … The Southland Conference hired Jimmy Glenn as communications intern and Lance Wallace as administrative intern.

Deaths

Former Oklahoma State wrestler and coach Tommy Chesbro died on September 1 after suffering a heart attack. In his second season as coach, Chesbro led the Cowboys to a national championship in 1971 … Former Southern Arkansas football coach Robin Hicklin died September 1 following a brief illness ... Sweet Briar soccer and lacrosse student-athlete Victoria Gadikian died in a car accident September 1. Gadikian was a two-time team MVP in soccer and received all-conference honorable mention in lacrosse in spring 2005 … Former Nebraska track and field standout Mark Graham died September 4 in Afghanistan. Graham was serving with the Canadian military … Arthur Bergstrom, the NCAA’s first director of enforcement, died on September 5, two days after celebrating his 100th birthday. Bergstrom joined the NCAA staff in 1956 and spent 20 years with the Association before leaving in 1976 … Former Georgia Southern football coach Erk Russell died September 8 after a car accident … Former Grambling Sports Information Director Collie Nicholson died on September 13 after a prolonged illness. He was 85.
