Cal State Monterey Bay named Howard Gauthier as its new director of athletics … Longwood appointed Troy Austin as interim director of athletics.

Associate directors of athletics

Saint Louis tabbed Kosha Irby as associate director of athletics for external operations. He succeeds Devin Crosby, who accepted a similar position at Virginia … Pam Gill-Fisher announced her resignation as senior associate athletics director at UC Davis … Purdue promoted Barb Kapp to associate athletics director … Northwestern added John Mack as associate athletics director for external affairs, effective August 28. He replaces Chris Boyer … Central Michigan tabbed Jay Lanctot as associate athletics director in charge of development.

Ken Belbin accepted a position as assistant athletics director for media relations at Daniel Webster … Tom Reiter was promoted to assistant director of athletics at Purdue. Tom Schott will begin duties as interim assistant athletics director on Au- gust 18 … Oral Roberts Director of Media Relations Cris Belvin added assistant athletics director to his title … Wright State promoted Matt Liddy to assistant director of athletics … Steve Macias was named assistant athletics director at Mount St. Vincent. He will also serve as head baseball coach … Rachel Roche added the designation of senior woman administrator at Redlands. Coaches

Baseball – Kalamazoo promoted Matt Rix to head coach. He replaces Steve Wideen, who stepped down as head coach and will remain with the program as an assistant … R.J. Thomas has been named interim coach at Hendrix … Mike Oliva was tabbed as the new head coach at Maritime (New York) … Clemson coach Jack Leggett signed a new five-year contract … Cal State L.A. named Pat Shine interim baseball coach. He replaces Dave Taylor, who took a similar position at Cal State Chico.

Baseball assistant – Texas-Pan American added Andrew McGuire to its staff.

Men’s basketball – Penn State men’s basketball coach Ed DeChellis signed a two-year contract extension that will keep him with the program through 2011 … Daniel Webster named Eddie Quick as head coach … Nebraska hired Doc Sadler as its new head coach. He replaces Barry Collier, who resigned to become athletics director at Butler … UTEP hired Memphis assistant Tony Barbee as its new men’s basketball coach.

Men’s basketball assistantsDante Terry joined the Mount Olive staff … Luke Flockerzi and Ryan Kadlubowski have joined the Rochester staff … Hamilton named Joe Wojtylko and Greg Snyder as assistant coaches … Fordham named Steve Treffiletti as an assistant men’s basketball coach … Dominican (New York) added Jim Sayer to its staff … Brett Davis, Theo Gremminger and Damon Pigrom were named assistants at Catholic … Dave Brown was hired at Susquehanna … Central Michigan named William Eddie Jr. as an assistant coach … Marty McGillan, Adrian Townsend and Bill Donlon joined the Wright State staff. Men’s and women’s cross country – Maryville (Tennessee) selected Sheldon Webster as head coach of the cross country and track and field programs … Wells tabbed Kevin Murphy to lead its men’s and women’s programs … Jacques Noseal was named head coach of the men’s team at Bernard Baruch … Sylvia Kamp was named head cross country and track and field coach at Wright State.

Men’s and women’s cross country assistants Kate Curran joined the staff at Susquehanna … Bernard Baruch named Ariadne Mui as an assistant women’s coach.

Field hockeyEllie Kavorski was named the inaugural coach at Hendrix … Kimberly Faust was selected to head the Wells program. She was also named head softball coach.

FootballBob Berezowitz announced his retirement from Wisconsin-Whitewater after 21 years at the helm.

Football assistants – Trinity (Connecticut) hired Bill Iannone as running backs coach, Shane Fogarty as outside linebackers coach and Bradley Soules as an assistant secondary coach … Matt Nelson joined the staff at Colorado College. He will also serve as an assistant in the athletics media relations office during the off-season … Max Glowacki was named offensive line coach at Wayne State … Mitchell Jenkins was added to the Greensboro staff … Williams named Marshall Creighton as an assistant football and baseball coach … Craig Aiken was tabbed as offensive coordinator at Greensboro … Tommy Bright, Brant McAdams and Dan Swanstrom joined the staff at Redlands … Susquehanna hired Bob Jazwinski and Joey StocktonJohn Barber, Pete Costanza, Chris Sapp and Blaise Zambrano were added to the Rensselaer staff.

Men’s and women’s golfGreg Gammell was named head men’s coach at Rhode Island College. He succeeds John Fitta … Florida International hired Joe Vogel as head women’s coach. He replaces David Pezzino, who left to become an assistant men’s coach at Illinois … California (Pennsylvania) added Justin Barroner as interim men’s golf coach … Joe Clinton will take over as men’s coach at Dominican (New York). He succeeds Joe GallagherMarianne Towersey will head the women’s program at Cal State Monterey Bay … Tom Mainez Jr. was promoted to head men’s coach at Cal State San Bernardino. He had served in the position on an interim basis since January … Jay Martin will lead the Wheaton (Illinois) men’s and women’s golf programs … Gannon chose Jennifer Eberlein as head women’s coach.

Men’s and women’s ice hockeyBrian Idalski resigned from his post as Wisconsin-Stevens Point women’s coach after compiling a 108-21-11 record over the past five seasons. Ann Ninnemann, the first all-American in school history, will take over as interim head coach.

Men’s and women’s ice hockey assistants – American International added Eric Lang and Trevor Large to its men’s staff.

Men’s and women’s lacrosseMike Pressler was hired to lead the Bryant men’s program. Pressler agreed to a five-year contract and replaces Rory Whipple, who resigned after seven seasons … Jeremy Lichtig was named inaugural men’s coach at Hendrix … Michael Eighmey was named head men’s coach at Wells. The program will begin play during the 2007-08 school year … Janna Cunningham was hired as the first women’s lacrosse coach in Westfield State history.

Men’s and women’s lacrosse assistant – Plattsburgh State promoted Kenny Pierson to assistant men’s coach.

Rowing – Robert Morris selected Midge McPhail as its head coach. She replaces Liz Jones … Florida Tech hired Adam Thorstad. He takes over for Casey Baker … Trinity (Connecticut) has tabbed Wesley Ng as its new head coach. He replaces Marina Traub, who resigned this spring.

Rowing assistantAmy Wiesenfeld was tabbed as an assistant at Hamilton.

Men’s and women’s soccer – Marymount (Virginia) hired Gayle Smith Wilson as head women’s coach. She succeeds Bob Meden … After five years as an assistant with the men’s and women’s programs at Hendrix, Tom Noor has been elevated to head women’s coach … Nicolle Wood is the new head women’s coach at Salem State

Men’s and women’s soccer assistantsDave Beck joined the staff at Saint Louis … Bridgewater State announced Pat Rose as an assistant men’s coach … Erica LaShomb joined the women’s staff at Tusculum. She replaces Kelley Anderson, who resigned after nine seasons … Wheaton (Illinois) named Chris Hudson as head coach. He replaces Pete Felske, who had served at the helm since 2001.

Softball assistantsMelissa Zabley and Dana Travis joined the staff at Wilmington (Delaware) … Susquehanna added Samantha KszepkaSue Carpenter joined the staff at Wright State.

Men’s and women’s swimming and divingStephanie Karl joined the staff at Hamilton … Bobby Mattin resigned his post as head coach at Salem State … Paul Mangen and Janelle Atkinson were selected as assistants at Wright State.

Men’s and women’s tennis – Binghamton named Adam Cohen men’s coach. Cohen succeeds Michael Starke, who retired in May … Occidental selected Gerard Picariello as head coach of the men’s program and Linda Park as head coach of the women … Kalamazoo named Matt Boven head women’s coach … Natalya Nikitina will take over the women’s program at Central Oklahoma. She replaces Francis Baxter, who retired after 26 years with the team.

Men’s and women’s track and field assistants – Belmont promoted Josh McMillian to assistant men’s coach … James Madison tabbed Ken Goglas as an assistant coach … Darcy Wilson will serve as a part-time throwing coach at Keene State … Greg Wisser was named as an assistant track and field and volleyball coach at Plattsburgh State.

Men’s and women’s volleyball – Daniel Webster tabbed Tammy Lambrou as head women’s coach … Beth Carter was appointed interim coach at Lynchburg … Michelle Cole was promoted to head women’s coach at Occidental … Geneseo State named Bouaketh Chanthavisouk as head women’s coach. She succeeds Maggie Loncz, who resigned after three seasons.

Men’s and women’s volleyball assistants – James Madison promoted Kerri-Ann Grosso to first assistant and hired Chuck Amshoff as second assistant … Sarah Graves was selected as a graduate assistant at Delaware.

Men’s and women’s water polo assistantCasey Finfrock joined the staff at Redlands.

Academic services – Winthrop appointed Melissa Perry as the new director of academic and student-athlete services. She replaces Danez Marrable, who left in June to accept a position at Georgia … Wright State academic adviser Maureen Cooper has accepted the designation of senior woman administrator … Central Michigan selected Joy Bauer as an academic adviser.

AdministrativePhil Rowe was named assistant vice president of student life for athletics at Daniel Webster … John Moseley was named administrative assistant for men’s and women’s basketball at Wright State … Erin Clare was hired as an administrative assistant at Cal State Monterey Bay.

Athletic trainersBrett Hoffman and Adam Horseman were named athletic trainers at Wright State.

Assistant athletic trainers – Saint Anselm named Andy Swanson as assistant athletic trainer … Kara Kessans, Tom Susco and Randielle Humphries joined the staff at Purdue … Wells added Deb Pickering to its staff … Elon selected Joshua Geruso and Jennifer Howard as assistant athletic trainers … Fordham hired Ann Marie Porada as an assistant athletic trainer.

Compliance – Redlands softball coach Laurie Nevarez has taken over as eligibility and compliance coordinator. Leslie Whittemore has stepped out of those roles but will remain as head swimming and diving coach.

Sports information assistants – Hobart and William Smith tabbed Megan O’Connor to serve as assistant director of athletics communications … Jeremy Mohler was named assistant sports information director at Saint Anselm … Cal State Monterey Bay named Embele Awipi as coordinator of sports information … Purdue hired Sara White as associate sports information director … Jack Holleran was selected as assistant sports information director at Rhode Island College … Cliff Martin joined the Oral Roberts staff … Kevin Warner was hired as assistant sports information director at James Madison … Albany hired Brianna LaBrecque as assistant media relations director. Conferences

The Gulf South announced the hiring of Eric SanInocencio as its new assistant sports information director. The conference also promoted Michael Banks to assistant sports information director … The State University of New York Athletic Conference named John Czarnecki as publicist … The Eastern Coast Athletic Conference announced that Stephen Bamford would continue as interim commissioner through the 2006-07 academic year … Shannon Holt was tabbed as an administrative intern at the Northeast Conference … The Great Lakes Valley Conference added Tom Daeger and Amanda Brickell to its staff. Daeger was hired as the conference’s first full-time sports information director and Brickell will serve as an assistant commissioner … The Old Dominion Athletic Conference hired James Nekoloff as its sports information director. Nekoloff assumes the role previously served by Chris Kilcoyne, who spent two years at the ODAC. The conference also named its leadership group for the 2006-07 year. Kenneth Garren, president of Lynchburg, will serve as chair of the conference presidential council. Curt Kendall, director of athletics at Bridgewater (Virginia), has been named president of the board of directors. Sweet Briar Athletics Director Kelly Morrison will serve as chair-elect of the board. Val Cushman, athletics director at Randolph-Macon Woman's, will continue her role as past-president and member of the conference executive committee … The Missouri Valley Conference hired Jeremiah Ingram as assistant director of communications … Monica Shepherd was named media and external relations assistant at the Patriot League … The Eastern College Athletic Conference named Frank Majikes as coordinator of men’s basketball officials for the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation … The Big South selected Nancy Perkins as its office manager.

Associations

Jim Shaffer was recently named president of the Executive Service Corps of Indiana, Inc. … CoSIDA named Portland soccer all-American Christine Sinclair and Northwest Missouri State football standout Josh Lamberson as the 2005-06 ESPN The Magazine All-Americas of the Year.

Notables

Fifteen players and five coaches will be enshrined in the National Football Foundation’s College Football Hall of Fame. The players are: Cornelius Bennett (Alabama); Tom Curtis (Michigan); Anthony Davis (Southern California); Kevin Dent (Jackson State); Keith Dorney (Penn State); John Friesz (Idaho); Jim Houston (Ohio State); John Huarte (Notre Dame); Roosevelt Leaks (Texas); Ronnie Mallett (Central Arkansas); Mark May (Pittsburgh); Jerry Rice (Mississippi Valley State); Joe Washington (Oklahoma); Paul Wiggin (Stanford); and David Williams (Illinois).
