Chancellors and presidents

The Michigan Board of Regents voted to reappoint Mary Sue Coleman to a second five-year term as president … Elizabeth Kiss was selected as president of Agnes Scott, effective August 1. Kiss was previously the Nannerl O. Keohane director of the Kenan Institute for Ethics and associate professor of the practice of political science and philosophy at Duke … California Lutheran named John Sladek as president and chief executive officer, effective August 15 … North Park tabbed David Parkyn as president. Parkyn previously worked as provost and senior vice president at Elizabethtown.

Director of athletics

D’Youville hired Brian Cavanaugh as director of athletics … Niagara appointed Ed McLaughlin as its new director of athletics, effective July 31. McLaughlin spent the past two years as associate athletics director for external affairs at American. He succeeds Mike Hermann, who left to take over the program at Towson … Haverford director of athletics Greg Kannerstein was named dean of the college. Kannerstein had served in his current post since 1983. Associate directors of athletics Wendy Smith and John Douglas will serve as acting directors of athletics next year … Brian Teter was chosen as athletics director at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Teter previously worked as an associate director of athletics at Cincinnati … Gary Gallup was hired as director of athletics at Kentucky Wesleyan. Gallup spent the past five years as associate athletics director for external relations at Nicholls State … Sylvia Barnier has been tabbed as interim director of athletics at Minnesota State Moorhead. She replaces Alfonso Scandrett Jr.

Associate director of athletics

D’Youville tabbed Brian Miller as associate director of athletics and head men’s basketball coach … Samford hired Leslie Claybrook as its associate director of athletics for compliance. Claybrook had worked in a similar capacity at Birmingham-Southern since 1999. He has also spent time at the Southeastern Conference and as an assistant women’s basketball coach at Mercer and Troy … Saint Louis promoted Mark Spencer to associate director of athletics for internal operations. Spencer has previously worked at East Tennessee State and New Mexico … Central Florida promoted Jessica Reo and Brad Stricklin to associate directors of athletics. Reo previously served as assistant athletics director for compliance and senior woman administrator. She will remain as SWA and will oversee the compliance office and serve as the department liaison to academic services. Stricklin began work at Central Florida this spring as assistant athletics director for business and finance and was promoted to associate athletics director for business and finance. Central Florida also changed Art Zeleznik’s title to associate athletics director for support services … Purdue named Joe Muller as its new senior associate athletics director for external relations … Paula Smith has been named associate director of athletics and senior woman administrator at UC Irvine. Smith served as assistant athletics director for student services at UC Irvine from 1999-2001 and then left to become associate director of athletics at UC Riverside, where she spent the past five years. Prior to her first stint at UC Irvine, Smith worked at the Big West Conference for 11 years.

Assistant directors of athletics

San Jose State tabbed Mark Papadopoulos as assistant athletics director for events and facilities. Papadopoulos will be in charge of day-to-day scheduling and management of facilities and events. He spent the past eight years working in various capacities at San Francisco. A former student-athlete, Papadopoulos played baseball at San Diego State and Sonoma State … John Sutyak joined the Wheaton (Massachusetts) athletics department as assistant athletics director. Sutyak, a 2000 Wheaton graduate, returns to campus after a three-year stint at Yale … Georgia State baseball coach Mike Hurst was promoted to assistant athletics director for operations. Hurst has spent the past 13 years at the helm of the baseball program … Regis (Colorado) hired Barbara Bolich as assistant athletics director. Bolich spent the past six years as director of athletics and recreation at Dominican (Illinois). She also spent five years as associate director of athletics at Bryn Mawr. She replaces Tom DedinJeff Bowers was named assistant director of athletics at Virginia Wesleyan. He is also the women’s soccer coach … Darryl Pope was promoted to assistant athletics director of compliance at Kennesaw State. Pope served as director of compliance in the athletics department last year, helping the program in its transition to Division I. Prior to joining the Kennesaw State staff, Pope worked at Maryland-Eastern Shore, Temple and Cal State Northridge … Janet Oberle was promoted to assistant director of athletics for compliance and student services at Saint Louis. Oberle previously served as director of compliance and originally joined the staff as an assistant women’s soccer coach in 1997 after finishing her playing career with the Billikens one year earlier … George Washington promoted Jason Wilson to assistant athletics director for facilities/operations … New Orleans hired Rob Broussard to be assistant athletics director for media relations.

Coaches

Baseball – Georgia State promoted Greg Frady to head coach. Frady spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach with the program after seven as the top assistant at Central Florida … Mark Johnson was hired at Sam Houston State. Johnson spent two decades at the helm of the Texas A&M program, compiling an overall record of 876-433-3 … Williams promoted Bill Barrale to head coach. Barrale served as an assistant baseball and football coach at the school for the past two seasons. A two-sport standout at Northeastern, Barrale went on to work as an assistant football coach at Hamilton, Rutgers and Rowan. He was also the head baseball coach at Norwich for five years. He succeeds Dave Barnard, who compiled a record of 305-144-1 in 13 seasons at the helm … East Stroudsburg selected WenDell Bolar as head coach. Bolar, a former player in the Seattle Mariners organization, has coaching experience with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays … Notre Dame hired Dave Schrage as head baseball coach. Schrage spent the past four years leading the Evansville program, and in 19 years as a head coach, has compiled an overall record of 476-553. Schrage has also coached at Northern Iowa and Northern Illinois. He takes over a program that has won five straight Big East titles and went 45-16-1 last season. Schrage succeeds Paul Mainieri, who left for LSU … Pat Casey signed a 10-year contract to remain as Oregon State’s head coach.

Baseball assistantsNate Ottaviani joined the Albright coaching staff … Buffalo tabbed Joe Hesketh to be pitching coach.

Men’s basketball assistantsMarlon Sears joined the Wagner staff. He replaces Jim Meil, who resigned to take a post at Towson … Anthony Jones resigned his position as associate head coach at North Carolina-Greensboro. Rod Jensen was elevated to Jones’ position. Jensen was previously the head coach at Boise State and is entering his 26th year of college coaching. Kevin Easley was added to the coaching staff after spending the past two seasons at Tennessee-Martin. Brooks Lee was promoted to the team’s second assistant position … Georgia State tabbed Mark Macon as an assistant coach. Macon, a six-year NBA veteran, began his collegiate coaching career at alma mater Temple, serving the past three years on the Owls’ coaching staff … Seton Hall added Dermon Player, Geoff Billet and Kevin Murphy to the staff. Player had been an assistant at St. John’s (New York) for the past five seasons. Billet was on the staff at Monmouth for the past five years and Murphy coached at Manhattan for the past three … Tim Carter joined the Florida State men’s basketball staff after spending the past 11 seasons at Texas-San Antonio. Carter, the all-time winningest coach in Texas-San Antonio history, won 160 games during his tenure and was named Southland Conference coach of the year in 1999. Carter has previously served as an assistant at Oklahoma, Houston, Oklahoma State and Northwestern … Adam Collins was named as an assistant at Francis Marion. Collins spent the past year on the staff at Henderson State and previously coached at Indiana (Pennsylvania) … Albright hired Kevin Driscoll, John Rizzo and Brit MooreJim Meil will return to Towson for his second stint on the staff. Meil previously coached at Towson for 15 years before continuing his career at Miami (Florida) and Wagner. He replaces Rob Norris, who recently accepted a position as top assistant at Canisius … Tony Benford has been hired as an assistant at Utah State. Benford spent the past eight seasons on the staff at Arizona State … Armstrong Atlantic State announced Steve Franklin as its new assistant coach … Bowling Green named John Stroia assistant coach … Campbell hired Darryl LaBarrieDarren Kohne joined the Central Michigan staff. Kohne has spent the past six seasons as an assistant coach at the Division I level, including the last three at Stephen F. Austin. He has also coached at High Point and Bowling Green.

Women’s basketball – Oregon State coach LaVonda Wagner signed a one-year extension that will keep her in Corvallis through the 2011 season … Stillman named Angelyne Brown as its new head coach. Brown led the Morgan State program from 2002-05 after spending eight years at Clark Atlanta. Brown replaces Sherri Harris and becomes the school’s sixth head coach in nine years … Dominican selected Ana Litton as head coach. Litton spent the past four seasons as an assistant at Randolph-Macon, helping the Yellow Jackets to four straight 20-plus win seasons. She has also coached at Washington and Lee and Shenandoah … Minnesota-Morris announced that Tim Grove will serve as interim coach next season … Henderson State women’s basketball coach Jeff Caldwell announced his resignation, effective July 31. The most successful women’s basketball coach in school history, Caldwell has guided the Lady Reddies to NCAA regional appearances in all four of his years at the helm. Caldwell has accepted a position as head men’s coach at Northwest Mississippi Community College … Saint Mary’s (Indiana) tabbed Jennifer Henley as its new coach. Henley was formerly the coach at Mount Union.

Women’s basketball assistantsGreg Lockridge will rejoin the San Jose State coaching staff. Lockridge coached at San Jose State during the 2002-03 season. He has also coached at Sacramento State and Fresno State … Longwood tabbed Andrea Gross and Colleen Kelly as assistants. Gross has spent the past two seasons as an assistant at IUPUI and Kelly is a recent Brown graduate who helped lead the Bears to a share of the 2006 Ivy League title … Monique Nolan has been promoted to top assistant on the Cal State San Bernardino staff. Nolan replaces Jennifer Childress, who left to take an assistant coaching position at Western Washington … Casey Thousand joined the Carthage staff … Holly Borchers joined the Florida Southern coaching staff. An assistant at Creighton for the past four seasons, Borchers will become Florida Southern’s top assistant. A four-year starter at Creighton, Borchers graduated in 1997 and went on to coach four years at Wright State … Kelly Buckles resigned her post as assistant coach at Belmont. She accepted a position in the school’s alumni office … Muskingum tabbed Tamara Spence as assistant coach. Spence will also serve as head women’s golf coach … Kaitlyn O’Malley was named assistant coach at Worcester Polytechnic … Army hired Tiesha Grace and promoted Mary Kurnat. Grace spent the past two years as head coach at Ramapo, compiling a 21-29 record during her tenure. She has also coached at Farleigh Dickinson and Hartford. Kurnat served as director of women’s basketball operations at Army last season and will assume on-court coaching responsibilities this season. She served as an assistant at Mount St. Mary (New York) during the 2004-05 season.

Men’s and women’s cross countryJamie LaFollette will take over as coach at Guilford. He succeeds Scott SmithJessica Coe was hired as head women’s coach at D’Youville … Kentucky Wesleyan named Willie Bratcher (men) and Tara Henshaw (women) as head coaches for the new cross country programs … Millikin hired Matthew Hayes to be head coach of both the men’s and women’s programs. Hayes will also serve as assistant track and field coach … Beth Green was chosen as head men’s and women’s coach at Mount Olive. A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth, Green spent the past six seasons as a volunteer assistant at her alma mater. She will also serve as assistant sports information director … Randy Greer was chosen as head men’s and women’s cross country coach at Anderson. Greer will also lead the university’s track programs. Greer has spent the past two seasons as an assistant at the school … Travis Brooks has been promoted to head men’s and women’s coach at Dominican.

Men’s and women’s cross country assistants – Trinity (Connecticut) tabbed Colin McKean as an assistant cross country and track and field coach. McKean was a 10-time conference champion and six-time all-American as a student-athlete at St. Norbert … Kara Krumenauer will be assistant coach for the Wisconsin-Whitewater women.

Field hockeyChristine Jeffrey has been appointed head coach of field hockey and women’s lacrosse at Eastern Connecticut State on a one-year basis. Jeffrey spent the past two seasons as a volunteer field hockey coach and worked with the lacrosse program on a volunteer basis this spring. Jeffrey replaces Kathy Railey, who resigned to become head women’s lacrosse coach at Villa Julie.

Field hockey assistants – Bridgewater State announced that Rachel Ladd was hired as an assistant field hockey coach. Ladd is a 2006 graduate of Keene State and was a four-year member of the Owls’ field hockey program … Albright named Rachel Becker as an assistant.

Football – Northwestern named linebackers coach Pat Fitzgerald as head football coach. Fitzgerald won the Chuck Bednarik award as the nation’s top linebacker in 1995 and 1996. He led Northwestern to the 1995 Rose Bowl and becomes the nation’s youngest Division I-A head coach. He succeeds Randy Walker, who passed away in June … Louisville signed coach Bobby Petrino to a 10-year contract that will keep him with the program through 2015. In three years at Louisville, Petrino has compiled a 29-8 record … Les Miles agreed to a five-year deal with LSU. In his first year as head coach, Miles led the Tigers to 11 victories and the 2005 Southeastern Conference championship game … Tennessee Tech selected Doug Malone as acting head coach.

Football assistantsMike Blair and Eric Ludwig were named assistants at Williams. Blair is a 2006 graduate of Trinity College and was an all-American in football, earning conference defensive player of the year honors during his senior season. He will coach the defensive line. Ludwig was a three-year starter on the Williams offensive line and was a two-time all-conference selection. He will coach the running backs … Frank Vecchio, Ed Myers, Jason Sparks and Corey Picard joined the Albright staff … Arkansas State added Les Boyum to its coaching staff. Boyum will coach the offensive line and be in charge of the team’s equipment. He will also have recruiting responsibilities. Boyum replaces Clint Reed … Southern Arkansas added Jeff Sims and Kendall Hill to its coaching staff as offensive coordinator and defensive line coach, respectively. Hill will also serve as strength and conditioning coach. Southern Arkansas also promoted Russ Pickett to secondary coach … Rice added Michael Smith as running backs coach … Wagner added Jeff Fela as an assistant. Fela spent the past four seasons coaching the offensive line at Troy and has also coached at Western Carolina, The Citadel, William and Mary, Connecticut, East Carolina, Rutgers, Colorado and Pittsburgh … Muskingum selected Matt Shaul as graduate assistant coach … Justin Hardin has joined the Army coaching staff. Hardin, whose father Bruce is also an assistant on the staff, will assist with special teams and defense. Hardin graduated from The Citadel in 2004, where he played quarterback for the Bulldogs … North Carolina Central added Mose Rison, James Spady and Derrick Arnold as assistant coaches. Rison comes to the program with more than 20 years of coaching experience, making stops at Davidson, Livingstone, Arizona, Stanford, Rutgers, Navy and Central Michigan. He will serve as the team’s assistant head coach, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Spady spent the past two seasons as the offensive line coach at South Carolina State. He will serve in the same capacity at North Carolina Central. Arnold coached at Fort Valley State for the past three years and has also worked on the Massachusetts staff. He will be the team’s new linebackers coach … Mike Lopez was promoted to assistant head football coach at Fairmont State. Lopez is slated to begin his fifth season on the sidelines at Fairmont as the team’s defensive coordinator. Lopez played at Fairmont State and was a team captain during the 1996 and 1997 seasons.

Men’s and women’s golfDavid Andrews was named head men’s and women’s coach at Carroll (Wisconsin). Andrews has spent the past six years as a high school coach in Wisconsin … Greg Genz was hired as Carthage women’s golf coach … Winthrop named Kevin Pendley (men) and Jodi Wendt (women) as head golf coaches. Pendley, the Big South player of the year in 1997 and 1998, played professionally for seven years. Wendt has served as an assistant at Winthrop for the past two years … Trelle McCombs will fill the women’s head coaching position at Tulsa.

Men’s and women’s golf assistantTony Berich joined the Philadelphia U. staff. Berich has served as the school’s assistant director of athletics and director of sports information for the past eight years.

Men’s and women’s ice hockeyScott Sandelin signed a three-year contract extension that will keep him as men’s coach at Minnesota Duluth through 2010 … After one year as an assistant men’s coach at Hamilton, Brendon Knight was named head women’s coach at the school. Knight graduated from Potsdam State in 2001 and remained with the program until 2005 as an assistant.

Men’s and women’s ice hockey assistants – Former Niagara goaltender Greg Gardner has joined the program’s coaching staff … Holy Cross named Albie O’Connell to its men’s ice hockey staff. O’Connell spent the past two seasons as an assistant at Niagara, and has also coached at Colby. O’Connell graduated from Boston U. and played three years of professional hockey.

Men’s and women’s lacrosseBrian Anken resigned his post as head men’s coach at Mars Hill. After his first year as head coach in 2004, Anken was recognized as Deep South Conference coach of the year. He has accepted the top spot at Lycoming … Farmingdale State tabbed Carrie Bolduc as head women’s coach. Bolduc spent the past four years as head coach at Massachusetts, compiling an overall record of 29-41. A member of the 1997 Temple team that advanced to the national semifinals, Bolduc finished her career at Syracuse … Steve Beville has been named head men’s coach at Cortland State. He replaces Rich Barnes, who led the Red Dragons to the NCAA Division III title this spring as interim coach. Beville brings 18 years of head coaching experience to the program, including the last eight seasons at Division I Vermont … Hendrix named Jeremy Lichtig as its inaugural men’s lacrosse coach. Lichtig had been an assistant at Susquehanna … Shelley Klaes-Bawcombe was named head women’s coach at James Madison. Klaes-Bawcombe was an all-American during her playing days at the school … VMI tabbed Jeff Shirk to coach the men’s team.

Rowing assistantJulie Domina was named an assistant coach at Tulsa.

Men’s and women’s soccer - Wagner named Mike Minielli to be head women’s soccer coach. Minielli comes to the Seahawks after six seasons at Murray State. Minielli ranks 23rd among active Division I coaches in career wins with a 190-136-31 career record. He began his coaching career at his alma mater, Saint Joseph’s (Indiana). He was named the 1996 Division II Women’s National Coach of the Year … Millikin appointed Steve Golas as its first full-time women’s soccer coach.

Men’s and women’s soccer assistants – Brandeis tabbed Ryan Angel as assistant women’s coach and Gabe Margolis as assistant men’s coach. Angel comes to Brandeis after four years at Rhode Island College, where he was head coach of women’s soccer and lacrosse. Angel has also served as head women’s soccer coach at Salve Regina. Margolis is a 2005 graduate of Wheaton (Massachusetts) and served as an assistant at Boston University last season. In addition to their soccer duties, Angel and Margolis will also serve as equipment room coordinators … Mount Olive appointed former Trojan standout Ryan Brown as an assistant men’s coach. Brown was a three-year defender for Mount Olive, and led the program to its first conference title in 2004 … Steve Armas joined the Campbell men’s soccer staff. A standout at Maryland, Armas went on to play professional soccer upon his graduation in 1999. He has spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach at Greensboro … George Washington selected Bryan Davis as assistant men’s coach ... Neel Bhattacharjee was hired at George Washington.

Softball – Belmont named Amy Tudor as its new head coach. Tudor led the Ohio Wesleyan program for the past two seasons … John Conway has been hired to head the Saint Louis program, effective July 24. Conway spent the past four seasons at Fontbonne and led the program to three Division III tournament berths … George Washington named Kim Staehle head coach … Cristina Lukas was named head softball coach at Dominican. Lukas will also serve as the athletics department’s business manager and senior woman administrator. As a coach, Lukas had made stops at Ball State and New Haven.

Softball assistantNatalie Laydon will be Muskingum’s graduate assistant coach. The institution also hired Erica Hoyt as a part-time assistant coach.

Men’s and women’s swimming and diving – Army hired Mickey Wender as its men’s and women’s coach. Wender has spent 16 years coaching at the college level, including the last eight at the helm of the Washington program.

Men’s and women’s swimming and diving assistantsCindy Barner and Charles Beatty were named assistant coaches at Albright … Ben Delia was hired as an assistant men’s and women’s coach at Trinity (Connecticut). Delia was a three-time Liberty League champion as a student-athlete at Hamilton. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics in 2005 … Iowa State tabbed Yun Qu as an assistant coach. Qu, a former Division I all-American at Binghamton, spent the 2005-06 season as a coach at Ithaca … Mollie Parrish was named an assistant at Denison. A 2002 Denison graduate and member of the school’s national championship team in 2001, Parrish most recently served as an assistant at Wesleyan (Connecticut).

Men’s and women’s tennis – Northern Illinois tabbed Ryun Ferrell as head women’s coach. Ferrell has spent the past seven years at the helm of the Drake program and led the Bulldogs to the Missouri Valley Conference regular-season title in 2005. Ferrell replaces Pontus Hiort, who had been coaching both the men’s and women’s squads … Chicago announced the appointment of Jeff White as assistant men’s and women’s coach and coordinator of promotions. A 2005 graduate of Coe, White finished his career ranked ninth on the school’s all-time victories list with 121 … Albright tabbed Jeremy Speicher as head men’s coach … Wayne State hired Dennis Royal as men’s coach … Trevor Kronemann was named men’s coach at UC Irvine. Kronemann returns to his alma mater after leading the program at Cal Poly for the past five seasons. The Big West player of the year in 1990, Kronemann won six doubles titles on the ATP Tour during his professional career … George Washington hired Greg Munoz as men’s head coach.

Men’s and women’s tennis assistantRegardt Schonborn has been named assistant women’s tennis coach at Trinity (Connecticut). Schonborn graduated from Trinity this past spring after helping the school’s squash team win national intercollegiate titles in each of the last four years.

Men’s and women’s track and fieldPeter Seal was appointed head coach of the men’s and women’s programs at Millikin.

Men’s and women’s track and field assistantJames Hayes will join the Millikin staff.

Men’s and women’s volleyballEmily Hayes was named head women’s coach at Guilford. A four-year player at Elon, Hayes was the team’s most valuable player in 2003. She succeeds Glenda Dellinger … Winthrop selected Gladys Wandera and Mary Hock as women’s assistants … Gary Patch was named head women’s coach at Worcester Polytechnic. Patch served as head coach for the boys and girls teams at Framingham High School (Massachusetts) last season. He succeeds Nancy Vaskas, who retired after 26 seasons … Dominican hired Tim Walenga as head men’s and women’s coach. Walenga most recently served as the top assistant at Southern Illinois. He has also coached at Marshall, Elon and Minnesota State.

Men’s and women’s volleyball assistantsMonica Marlowe joined the Bradley staff. Marlowe spent the past three seasons as an assistant at Nebraska-Kearney. She was a four-year starter at Truman State and helped the Bulldogs to an appearance in the 2002 national championship match … Greg Dewey and Liz Guard joined the Tulsa staff.

Staff

Academic services – Mount St. Mary’s named Kevin Robinson Jr. coordinator of student-athlete support services.

Athletic trainer – Saint Louis announced the addition of Melanie Hof to the sports medicine staff. Hof has spent the past two years as an assistant athletic trainer at Louisville. She will work primarily with the women’s basketball and field hockey programs in her new position … Westfield State announced the retirement of head athletic trainer Rich Pierce. The school tabbed Melanie Monroe as its new head trainer … Armstrong Atlantic State selected Daniel Hinely as head athletic trainer.

Assistant athletic trainers - Vince McCallister will be a graduate assistant trainer at Muskingum … Tennessee Tech hired Jennifer Winningham … North Carolina-Greensboro hired Daisy Kovach as a full-time assistant athletic trainer. Kovach worked at North Carolina-Greensboro from 2001-04 in a part-time capacity. Most recently, she served as an assistant trainer at Tulane.

Business managersSandy Iverson was hired as athletics accountant at Delaware. Iverson has worked in the school’s office of general accounting since 1990 and joins the athletics department staff in a newly created position … Central Michigan hired Marcus Blossom as the new business manager for its athletics department. Blossom spent the past year as an administrative services intern with the NCAA. A standout basketball player at Northeastern, Blossom earned all-America East honors three times during his career. He received his master’s degree in sport management from West Virginia in 2005 … Glenna Magee will serve as business manager at Saint Rose.

ComplianceCharles Armbruster was named compliance manager at Delaware. Armbruster worked in the Indiana athletics department for the past five years. He replaces Sue Groff, who has taken over as Delaware’s senior associate director of athletics for internal affairs … Heather Copeland was promoted to director of compliance at Belmont. Copeland has served as assistant director of compliance for the past six years. She succeeds Ken Sidwell, who retired in May. Wes Burtner will assume Copeland’s previous position … Elon promoted Catherine Walker to director of compliance.

RecreationErick Baumann has been promoted to director of athletics and recreation at Dominican. Baumann has served as the school’s men’s soccer coach since 1995, compiling a 180-51-12 mark during a stretch that includes nine conference titles.

Sports informationTracy Maple was hired as the sports information director at California Lutheran … Ryan Griswold will assume sports information duties at Haverford. He has served as web content coordinator since July 2005 … Christina O’Brien was hired as Longwood’s new assistant sports information director. O’Brien previously worked as an intern in the Brown sports information office … Cal State Dominguez Hills named Brendan Dally as assistant sports information director. Dally worked as a student assistant in the athletics department from 2001-2004 … Central Michigan promoted Rob Wyman to assistant sports information director. Wyman graduated from Central Michigan in 2005 and has served as an intern for the past two years … Fairmont State men’s and women’s swimming coach Pat Snively will add duties as assistant sports information director for Olympic sports. Snively has served as sports information director on an interim basis since January. He enters his sixth season at the helm of the swimming program.

Conferences

The Big East promoted Jason DeAngelis to assistant director of compliance. Ben Fairclough will fill the conference’s newly created position of assistant director of internet publicity and promotions after spending the past year as a communications assistant. The Big East also promoted Shawn Murphy to director of men’s basketball operations and James Siedliski to associate commissioner for Olympic sports … The Eastern College Athletic Conference named Michael Letzeisen as coordinator of operations and services. Letzeisen spent the past two years as an intern with the conference. The conference also promoted Kyle Kravchuk to associate commissioner for business services. Kravchuk joined the office in October 1999 as an assistant commissioner … The Colonial Athletic Association promoted Brad Gregg to assistant commissioner for operations and Brad Taylor to assistant commissioner for championships … Kate Whalen was named associate commissioner for operations of the East Coast Conference. Whalen spent the past 13 years as assistant athletics director and softball coach at Adelphi. She led her teams to more than 330 victories, including eight straight seasons of more than 25 wins from 1999-2006.

The National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame added four new members to its national board of directors: Tostitos Fiesta Bowl president and CEO John Junker; Michigan athletics director Bill Martin; former College Football Association executive director Chuck Neinas; and Archie Griffin, president and CEO of the Ohio State University Alumni Association.

Corrections

In the July 3 edition of the NCAA News, Florida Southern men’s basketball coach Jarod Olson’s name was spelled incorrectly. The caption under his picture referenced the academic services department, but Olson will serve solely in a coaching capacity.

Notables

The College Sports Information Directors of America named former United States President Gerald Ford as the 2006 recipient of its Dick Enberg Award. The award, presented by the group since 1997 and named after the longtime television sportscaster, annually recognizes one individual committed to promoting the values of education and academics while furthering the meaning of the student-athlete … Bill Raftery and Mark Heisler have been selected to receive the 2006 Curt Gowdy Media Award from the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. The awards are given annually to one member of the print and one member of the electronic media whose efforts have made a significant contribution to the game of basketball … The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association named Shalonda Solomon, Victoria Jackson, Garrett Johnson and Jaanus Uudamae as scholar athletes of the year. The Stanford and South Carolina women’s teams and the Arkansas men’s team received all-academic team of the year honors from the organization.

Deaths

Former Calvin basketball coach and athletics director Chuck Bult died on June 21. After graduating from Calvin in 1941, Bult served as a tank commander for the U.S. Army in World War II. He returned to Calvin in 1945 and led the men’s and women’s basketball programs until he left in 1953 … New Mexico State football player Shana Leaupepe died July 7. He was slated to be one of the Aggies’ starting middle linebackers this season … Clemson assistant track and field coach Jarrett Foster died July 8. Foster had just finished his seventh year with the program.
