Guilford has hired Jeff Bateson as head men’s soccer coach.

Bateson, who replaces Liam Behrens, has spent the past two seasons as head men’s coach at Tri-State. Before his tenure at Tri-State, he worked as head coach at Alma, where from 2000 to 2004 he guided the Scots to a 39-31-7 record. He also served as an assistant coach at the school for two seasons.

A 1998 graduate of Alma with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and minors in math and Spanish, Bateson earned all-American recognition as a senior midfielder for the men’s soccer squad and helped the Scots to their first NCAA tournament appearance in 1997. Bateson holds a Premier coaching diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
