NCAA Double-A Zone

Oct 9, 2006 1:01:49 AM

University of New Haven senior Desiree Guenther has shared her voice throughout the soccer season on the Double-A Zone and continued her guest posts on the blog last week.

Guenther has been chronicling the Chargers’ season and has taken blog readers with her every step of the way. After the soccer season, New Haven will select another student-athlete to share his or her experiences on the blog.

Former Stanford University women’s cross country coach Dena Evans joined the discussion on work and life balance issues in intercollegiate athletics with a post in Coaches’ Corner. Evans’ piece was reprinted in the Comment section of this issue of The NCAA News.

On Mondays With Myles, NCAA President Myles Brand and Vice President for Division II Mike Racy discussed the partnership with CSTV that has brought Division II athletics to the Internet.

An interesting conversation about how college coaches should be evaluated also took place on the Double-A Zone last week. While some fans believe coaches must deliver wins to be successful, others believe that a team’s academic success is also a reflection on the head coach. Some bloggers believe there is a balance that coaches must achieve.

Title IX was also a hot topic during the past couple of weeks, as James Madison University announced that it was cutting 10 varsity programs to comply with the gender-equity legislation. Bloggers also weighed in on the results of the annual Black Coaches Association report card.
