Woman of the Year nomination deadline set for June 23

May 5, 2006 1:01:01 AM

Institutions interested in making 2006 Woman of the Year nominations should make note of the significant changes to the process this year.

The NCAA Committee on Womens Athletics has made significant changes to the nomination process. The nomination form (PDF format) must be completed and submitted not later than June 23, 2006, to the conference office with which the nominees primary sport is affiliated.

Institutions are urged to submit two nominations to their respective conference offices if at least one of the nominees is a person of color.

Upon receiving nominations from its member institutions, each conference will be responsible for assessing each nominees eligibility and subsequently selecting a conference nominee based on collective achievements in service, leadership, athletics and academics. Conferences may recognize two nominees if at least one of the nominees is a person of color.

Each conference office must submit its nominee(s) to the national office via a Web-based form (to be posted on a later date) by July 21. All conference nominees will be forwarded to the Woman of the Year selection committee. The selection committee will select the top 10 winners in each division. From among those 30 honorees, the selection committee will determine the top three in each division. Finally, the members of the CWA will vote from among the top nine to determine the 2006 NCAA Woman of the Year.

For those nominees in Divisions I and II whose primary sports are unaffiliated with a conference office, nominations must be sent to the national office. Independents in these divisions will be considered among all other conference nominees by the selection committee. For nominees in Division III whose primary sports are unaffiliated with a conference office, nominations must be sent to the Association of Division III Independents for consideration. The Association of Division III Independents will select their nominee and notify the national office via the aforementioned Web-based form.

The top 10 honorees from Divisions I, II and III will be honored, and the 2006 NCAA Woman of the Year announced, at a dinner in Indianapolis October 28, 2006.
