The Division II Presidents Council filled two leadership positions in the governance structure for the coming year. The presidents re-elected Pfeiffer University’s Charles Ambrose to another term as chair of the Presidents Council and ratified the appointment of Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner Dave Brunk to succeed Texas A&M University-Kingsville Athletics Director Jill Willson as chair of the Division II Management Council beginning with the conclusion of the 2007 Convention. Both men will serve until their terms on the respective Councils expire after the 2008 Convention.

Ambrose became Pfeiffer’s eighth president in 1998. Before that appointment, he served as director of Furman University’s athletics fund-raising organization, the Paladin Club. He also was executive assistant to the president of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities and vice president for advancement at Carson-Newman College.

Ambrose has served in several outside leadership positions as well, including as president of the Carolinas-Virginia Conference from 2000 to 2002.

Ambrose earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Furman, where he was captain of the soccer team. He also earned a master’s degree in higher-education administration from the University of Louisville — where he was a volunteer assistant coach for the men’s soccer team — and a doctorate in the same academic field from the University of Georgia.

Brunk is in his ninth year as Northeast-10 commissioner after having spent eight years as a compliance and membership services representative at the NCAA national office.

A 1972 graduate of Ball State University, Brunk also has served as assistant director of athletics and director of the Eagle Athletic Fund at Morehead State University. He holds a master’s degree in sports science and sport management from the United States Sports Academy.

Before his involvement in intercollegiate athletics, Brunk owned and operated several minor league baseball franchises for the Kansas City Royals and the Pittsburgh Pirates. He garnered numerous awards for overall business and marketing/promotional excellence.

In addition to his service on the Management Council, Brunk also is a member of the Division II Membership Committee, the Convention Planning Project Team and the Division II Identity Subcommittee.
