Conferences: Thomas Jones of Armstrong Atlantic State University has been elected as president of the Peach Belt Conference for the 2006-07 season, replacing Daniel Ball of Lander University. Ball will remain on the conference’s executive committee. Others on the executive committee include Dorothy Leland of Georgia College & State University and David Potter of North Georgia College & State University.

Miscellaneous: Mount Olive College recently unveiled a new logo for its athletics program. The logo, designed by North Carolina artist Jordan Sain, features a Trojan helmet atop the blocked initials "MOC," with "Mount Olive College" at the bottom of the logo. "We’re very happy with the new look and very excited to introduce our new logo," said Athletics Director Jeff Eisen. "It is an attractive design that represents the excitement and competitiveness of Mount Olive College athletics."... The University of West Georgia recently addressed two issues when it changed its nickname from Braves to Wolves. Not only did the action resolve any issues with the NCAA over the American Indian mascot issue, it also moved the school’s identification away from the nearby Atlanta Braves baseball team. "From the president on down, it appeared to be the thing to do in the long run," football coach Mike Ledford told the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer. "We’ve had more interest about being the Wolves than we ever had being the Braves." ... The West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has added a blog to its Web site (www.wviac.org). Associate Commissioner Will Prewitt said the blog will feature student-athlete and coaches journal entries, along with historic pieces.
