Lincoln (Missouri) scored in nearly half of the events — and placed multiple scorers in three of those events — to capture its second team title in three years at the Division II Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Though the Blue Tigers won only two events, they rolled up 87 points in seven events — 36 2/3 more than runner-up Abilene Christian — during the March 10-11 meet at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston.

Freshman Davita Prendergast won the 200-meter dash with a record time of 24.12 seconds and also finished second in the 400-meter dash, and junior Kerry-ann Robinson won the triple jump to lead Lincoln to victory.

The Blue Tigers collected 49 of their points in three races, including 20 points in the 60-meter dash, where team members finished second, third, fourth and eighth. Lincoln claimed runner-up honors in five races at the championships, including the meet-ending 1,600-meter relay.

Lincoln’s Kelly Marshall led the parade of scorers in the 60-meter dash, finishing one second behind Cal State Los Angeles’ Angel Brown, who tied the meet record in the event with her time of 7.43 seconds. The Blue Tigers’ other event runners-up were Kelly Marshall in the 800-meter run and Carla Thomas in the 60-meter high hurdles.

Last year’s team champion, Saint Augustine’s, claimed the most individual titles this year, with three. The Falcons beat Lincoln by a second in the 1,600-meter relay and also collected victories in the 400-meter dash from Johnsie Liles and the 60-meter hurdles from Marquita Davis, who set a meet record with her 8.44 time in the event.

However, the Falcons’ victory in the relay wasn’t quite enough to nose past Abilene Christian for team runner-up honors. The Wildcats finished third in that event to edge Saint Augustine’s by 1 1/3 points.

The Wildcats also collected their division-leading 53rd individual title with Angie Aguilar’s victory in the pole vault.

Adams State and Central Missouri State each collected two individual crowns. Adams State — which placed fourth to post its 10th top-five finish without a team title — won its second straight distance medley relay and also saw Tanya Gaurmer win the mile run. Central Missouri State’s Kristin Anderson and Jennifer Drum Greer were winners in the 5,000-meter run and high jump, respectively.

Meanwhile, Grand Valley State posted its first top-five finish, thanks primarily to a pair of third-place finishes by last fall’s cross country champion, Mandi Zemba, in the mile and 5,000-meter run.

Senior Foluso Makinde of Nebraska-Omaha was the only repeat individual winner from last year’s championships, grabbing another long jump crown.
