Helping young patients — Student-athletes from the Northern Arizona University athletics department visited the Phoenix Children’s Hospital this spring for "an eye-opening experience," according to basketball student-athlete Paul Meynen. "When you see a 19-month-old with leukemia and other children with immune system disorders it makes you realize how blessed you are," he said. Meynen was joined by Kelly Busche (swimming), Maria Hechanova (swimming), Rachel Blackman (basketball), Lindsey Carey (soccer), Geoff Ducksworth (football), Will Hensley (basketball), Brittany Janousek (athletic trainer), Kaitlyn Manakas (soccer), Mikaela Knutson (volleyball), Roni Greenwood (volleyball) and Kim Biswanger (basketball). Meynen organized the event through the school’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. The student-athletes read a children’s story and created dioramas (scenes in a shoebox) with the patients.
