Facilities: The 2006-07 season marks the beginning of a new era at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, with the opening of a spacious and technologically advanced Athletic Medicine Center in the Tom and Nancy Osborne Athletic Complex. The move allowed the athletic medicine facility to quadruple in size from its previous home inside the south end of Memorial Stadium. The Athletic Medicine Center now features a hydrotherapy area that includes a three-level laned pool and a Hydroworks 1000 Treadmill Pool equipped with two cameras underwater for evaluation and assessment. Hot and cold plunge tanks also are available. The center also features a new X-ray room complete with hospital-grade equipment, and provides private areas for physical exams, an emergency medical procedures room, a licensed pharmacy, rooms designated for drug testing, braces and rehabilitation supplies and dental appliances. Nebraska’s athletic medicine staff is led by Pat Clare, now in his 30th year of serving Husker athletics.

Miscellaneous: The Sun Belt Conference’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has developed a plan to help fellow conference member University of New Orleans in its rebuilding efforts after Hurricane Katrina. The SAAC’s plan involves raising money through the conference’s 19 sponsored sports on each campus and at each of the conference’s 11 championship sites. The money will be forwarded to the conference office for distribution to the University of New Orleans. "This endeavor shows the level of respect and compassion our schools have for one another," Sun Belt Conference Commissioner Wright Waters said. "While competition is intense on the field of play, the level of commitment to helping those in need is equally intense. This is a wonderful initiative, and it speaks volumes about the character of the Sun Belt Conference student-athletes who are involved." Funds will be raised in two primary ways. First, each school will designate a home competition in each sport and assign SAAC members to solicit donations from fans attending the respective events. Additionally, at each conference championship event, SAAC members of the host school will solicit donations from fans attending the championship. All donors will receive a commemorative bracelet noting their support of the campaign. After the 2007 Sun Belt baseball tournament, the league’s final championship event for 2006-07, all proceeds will be presented to New Orleans Athletics Director Jim Miller.
