Greg Shaheen, vice president for Division I men’s basketball and championship strategies at the NCAA national office, has been promoted to senior vice president for basketball and business strategies.

In his new role, Shaheen will continue to oversee men’s basketball, including the Division I Men’s Basketball Championship and the National Invitation Tournament.  He also will develop strategies to leverage new business opportunities that increase awareness of all 88 NCAA championships.

"Greg already has done a superb job expanding the business opportunities with our corporate champions and corporate partners, as well as our broadcast partners in men’s basketball and other areas," said NCAA President Myles Brand. "Now we’re looking to expand opportunities across all of the NCAA’s properties."

Shaheen said he is enthusiastic about the opportunities that are available as the popularity of the NCAA’s assets continues to gain notice.

"In this highly competitive environment, we have more opportunities to expand the reach of mission and values of the NCAA and to do so across more platforms than ever before — providing unique opportunities for our student-athletes and our growing fan base."

NCAA Executive Vice President Tom Jernstedt said Shaheen has enjoyed particular success in building relationships with the NCAA corporate champions and partners, which are integral in promoting Association values.

"Greg’s work with our corporate supporters has laid the foundation for us to be more focused and strategic in telling the student-athlete story," he said.

Shaheen began his tenure at the NCAA national office in October 2000.
